Rash on Bum, What Do You Think...

Alright, doctor's office is closed so thought I'd check here. My daughter (almost 2 and a half) has a rash on her little bum. She's had it for more then a week now. We thought it was bug bites from when we went swimming last week but now its still there and obviously not bug bites... We have no idea how she'd get a rash on this part of her body. My daughter is still in diapers at all times and has NEVER had any rash at all. Not even diaper rash, or heat rash of any sort... It is patchy, just two small patches right on the meaty part of her bum. Not at all in the middle or around the outside where the diaper rubs. We've worn just about every diaper out there for money reasons and she's never had a problem with any diapers either. In some cases we're really lucky I know. But wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts. It is a raised bumpy rash with little to no different color then her skin (except when she scratches it of corse).

What would you suggest using on it? I've been putting desetine because that's what we had on hand from when she was born. I figured it couldn't hurt. It hasn't gotten any better or worse... I'm not sure what else to use on such a sensative body part, and covered up in a diaper...

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, that's great info! Thanks! Sounds to me like I should just wait til the doc opens back up tomorrow... It was just odd to me that this would pop up out of no where! We don't have a history or exima at all but, who knows! Thanks a ton to everyone!!!

Hand-Mouth-Foot Disease (not really a disease) has been going aroung my sone daycare. It looks like blisters and show up on the hands, inside mouth, feet and the bottom. It is pretty harmless and can come with a fever.

Good Luck!

I am no doctor, but it sounds like a fungal rash, much like the one my daughter recently had. No color, raised, on the fleshy part of her buttocks. I took her to the doc and he prescribed a cream that cleared it up. Maybe you could try an anti-fungal cream, but I would hesitate trying anything on a child that small without contacting the doc. It can wait until the doc office is open, though, because it won't hurt her (if that is what it is).

Hope this helps!

I would definitely check with the dr just to be on the safe side. If it's diaper rash or eczema type rash, I can suggest some great products. I use them on my son. He would get diaper rashes every once in a while, but he has yet to get one since we started the ABC products. A friend of mine had a baby a few months back with bad eczema, too. She used those products and it started disappearing in just a couple of days. I have some samples if you'd like to try them with no obligation to buy.

You can contact me through here or at ____@____.com or ###-###-#### if you'd like to try a sample. First talk to your dr though because you want to make sure you know what it is. Self diagnosing is always a scary thing. :o) Good luck, and I'll keep a sample on hand in case you want to try.

That's exactly where my daughter gets her eczema rashes.

You can try over the counter cortisone cream tonight so she'll get a little relief, it won't hurt her, then take her in to the doc tomorrow. We've been using cortisone (OTC and Rx, and sparingly) on my daughter since she was 9 months old.

I have used hydrocortisone cream on every rash and it always goes away. My doctor recommends it for all rashes with my kids.

I used to use Lotrimin on my daughter when she had a rash. It was prescription only then, now you can buy over the counter. look in the section that sells foot powders and creams. it works wonders.

Hi T.- My Sis works at a Dermatologist office 20+ years and when my DD was having rashes that didn't seem to go away she brought something home from the office one day for me to try. It's called "Triple Paste" in a white plastic jar with blue print. I recently saw it at Target. It's kinda pricey but consider a little goes a long way. $17.00 I think. I will never use anything else. Sometimes I would add a little powder on top of the triple paste. I'm telling you this stuff is AWESOME!

I'm not a doctor, but what you're describing sounds like eczema to me. Any very emollient lotion applied several times a day and especially right after baths should help if it's eczema. Eczema can apear anywhere. I've had it behind my knees, on my hands, fingers, and wrists, and even on my face and eyelids. My daughter has had it on her abdomen, her calves and forearms and my son has had it on his calves, knees, elbows and on his bottom as you're describing that your daughter has. Some good choices that my daughter's dermatologist recommended for my kids' eczema are Aquaphor, Eucerine and Cetaphil cream.

You should still call the doctor's office when it's open to find out what they say.

My daughter's dermatologist gave us a steroid cream to use when the rashes get bad, but the rest of the time, they recommended those creams (mentioned above) on a daily basis.

P.S. One of the soccer mom's told my husband to put Lotrimin on the rash on my daugter's legs (turned out to be contact dermatitis from her shin guards) and when I told the dermatologist that we had done that, she said that was not a good idea. I didn't ask her why, but I saw that someone else recommended that to you and just wanted to let you know what I was told by a doctor about that as well. :-)
