Rash on Breast

Hi quick question moms - I have a rash on one breast it is itchy and a little red and slightly bumpy. It is not on the nipple, just the side of the breast. I'm bf'ing my 6 month old. I thought possibly it was fungal and have been putting a fungal cream on it - lotrimin and also tried some hydrocortisone cream. I haven't noticed a real improvement.

I don't have any pain or any other symptons.

Anyone else have suggestions?

I am hoping to not have to go to a dr right now if I can help it...I am temporarily without health insurance until May of next year. Long story but it is financial...

Thanks for the help!

What can I do next?

I had a rash like that, that started when I was BFing. Since then, I've gotten it a couple more times. I also eventually used hydrocortisone cream on it. It took a very long time to go away. Unless it starts getting worse, I would just keep treating it. Skin rashes, in my experience, can just take a long time to clear up.

One thing to watch for. I developed an allergic reaction to the hydrocortisone cream. It now causes small fluid-filled blisters on my skin that are incredibly itchy. So now, I can't use the cream anymore.

If it is a yeast infection I think you can use some Selsom Blue(shampoo) on it overnight while you sleep to clear it up.

I've had a rash on my breast that has migrated to my abdomen. I've seen the doctor 3 times for it. They've taken a culture. It's not yeast but they don't know what it is. Mine isn't itchy. I'm telling this to say going to the doctor may not help at all. The cause of some things are just unknown and we have to let it run it's course.

Could yours be caused by your bra or some other clothing rubbing against it? Or it could be an allergic reaction to detergent or lotion.

Sounds like yeast. Use some cheap yeast infection meds on it and see if it clears up. Try not to scratch it, even though it is uncomfortable.
