I developed ithcy legs after I shaved my legs 2 weeks ago. It has gotten progressively worse. My legs are now covered in red spots. I itch them until they bleed and then they scab and i do it all over again. It is terrible. I have tried Benadryl, Calamine, and every other OTC anti-itch cream, including hydocortisone cream. My OB is out of town and my PCP can't seem me for a few days. Has anyone expirenced this and if so what did you take?

What can I do next?

I also can kind of relate..in my third trimester I developed an allergy to my laundry detergent(I had used the same detergent for close to a year)...I was itchy all over my body...I got some Aveno body wash and cream, as well as switched to a free and clear detergent, and it cleared up in less than a week. Hope this helps...and good luck with the itchies!!!

I can kind of relate. I'm not sure if its the same thing that you have, but when I was pregnant, I had eczema all over both my hands. I went to a dermatologist and she basically told me that there wasn't much I could do but to constantly put lotion on them. Aveeno works very well for me. I hope your legs feel better soon!

Call your pharmacist. They'll be able to recommend something over the counter to get relief until a doctor can see you.
Good luck!
Pregnancy is so weird, isn't it?!?!?!?!??! End result is great but getting to the baby is sometimes so weird!! Who knew our bodies were capable of all these things!

S.,
You have PUPPPS! (yes, 3 P's) It is a rash related to pregnancy. "Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy". I had it my last trimester and for about two months after I gave birth. It was only on my lower part of my body, from my stomach down. It was awful! UNGODLY ITCHY! I found the only thing that truly worked for me to get relief was Bandaid brand gel for bug bites, etc. It is more expensive then other remedies and you use a ton, but it works! While pregnant, there isn't much you can take. My doctor gave me benadryl and told me to take it at night so I could sleep, (Which I used once) but it made me so tired and I didn't want to take anything that would sedate the baby. I also used a topical foam prescribed by my doctor called OLUX, that really worked, but, I can't remember if I used it after I had my daughter or if it was safe to use while pregnant. There are a ton of web sites (some really humourous) that have lists of remedies that others have used. I feel for you..PUPPPS drove me mad! Good Luck!

I think they call it PUPS or something like that. Have you mentioned it to your OB/GYN? It's more common after pregnancy, but I got it my third trimester with my first child.

Hope that helps,

I know it might sound stupid but try putting lotion on your legs a few times a day. A lot of the time when my legs get that way its because they are really dried out. Winter weather will do that. Sometimes you cant really see that they are dried out but they are. I hope this helps you, I know it works for me when my legs start itching like that.

I had rashes with both of my pregnancies, but they were the beginning of stretch marks. My Dr. said there was nothing he could do, so I made sure I lathered myself in lotion after showering and sometimes throughout the day, too. Also, I put baby powder on it to keep it dry so it wouldn't itch so much. I would still definitely see your OB, try these in the meantime, it can't hurt.

I did. It is so annoying. I had to see my PCP and he gave me a mild steriod cream. I used the hydrocortisone until I was able to see him. Unfortunately I don't know of anything else that can help. Stay strong and try not to scratch. Maybe an oatmeal bath would help. It helps with chicken pox. Hopefully your doc will be able to see you soon. Don't worry apparently it is common with pregnancy.

My sister had this...Sounds very similar to the type of rash she had when she was prego. It is called PUPPP. I think her doctor gave her a cream but I don't think it helped 100%.

I had cholestasis when I was preggie and itched EVErywhere to the point that i'd break through my skin from scratching. My OBGYN made me go and take blood tests and NSTs immediately and I was given prescription medicine to ease the itch, but helped only a little. I tried over-the-counter stuff too and it didn't help at all. I was worst in my hands and bottom of my feet. Cold showers eased the itch a little. Don't do hot showers!!! It makes it worse!

Good luck, sweetie!

just in time for the warmer weather, but my recommendation is to definitely quit shaving until it clears up....and then start with a new razor, and some damn fine shaving gel....use a toner afterward too.

It might be a PUPP rash. I had that all over my body 2 weeks before I delivered. Sarna cream gave me the most relief but the only thing that really helped was delivering the baby. The rash went away soon after that. I even brought my Sarna cream in the delivery room with me.

be careful when using over the counter creams like benedryl because with topical medicines like that you cant control the dosages! (how much is actually absobed into the skin) aveeno makes an oatmeal baby bath that works pretty well, and there is a spray called dermaplast that works well too till you can get in to your doctor. hope it clears up for you soon.

I had a rash almost just like yours with two of my pregnancies. It ws always on the back and sides of my legs and sometimes on my elbows. Very itchy and painfully at the sametime. I was sent to a dermatologist and he said it was (not sure of the spelling) Granduloma Anginoma . I was given a steroid cream that worked ok and was told after I had the baby I could get a shot that would make it go away. The only other thing that sort of helped was the calming cream by Eucerin. Hope this helps!!

I am not sure if this is the same thing but I too had this or something similar during my pregnancy with my first child. I wish I could be of comfort by my OB/GYN's told me it was the "Rash of Pregnancy" and really there is nothing that will make it go away. They told me to take oatmeal baths which I did. It helped but not too much. I believe that they told me I could also take Benadryl (please don't quote me on this, it was 6 years ago). It eventually went away on its own. But I feel your pain becasue it was worse than the worse case of poison oak I have ever had. Try not to scratch it, impossible I know but important.

Good Luck!

I have the same problem since I ave had my son Three years ago and still suffer from it. Pregnancy totally changes your body! I found out that it is exama and what ever possible the scratching has to stop it only makes it worst. I was told to use a non-fragrance soap. dove works wonderful. and use eurcerin body lotion. I have also found out that thesse spots were caused by food allergies. So you might want to go that route. but i went to a dermatoligest for my problems and what he did helped somewhat, but finding out about the allergies helpped even more. I'm not saying that you have any, but that is what happened after i had my son. so try the mild non-scented soaps and lotions first.
