My son has the same thing. It is dry skin. He has excema. Hydrocortizone cream did not work for him. But I started using unscented everything. The best baby wash is Aveno extra creamy baby wash, it is wonderful and started helping his skin right away. I also use the Aveno baby lotion or Eucerin calming cream. I like the Aveno better though because it is not greasy. I use it all the time now instead of regular baby lotion and he very rarely breaks out in a rash anymore, usually only if he is exposed to something that irritates his skin.

that sounds exactly like dry skin, or heat rash. guess which i'm thinking is more likely this time of year. the red on his bum might be a diaper rash, but i'd go with a and d's clear ointment before using anything with zinc oxide which will dry out his skin worse.

My daughter had the same thing and I didn't believe our doctor either, but I asked frieds and did what they said and what the dr. said -- turned out it actually was dry skin!

I agree with the butt paste. Friends suggested it and it worked like a charm on my daughters bottom. For the rest of her skin, and for the duration of the winter, the doctor recommended we used Aquaphor by Eucerin immediatley after each bath. It is thicker than regular lotion so it would lock in the moisture. A bonus, once the rash is gone, use it on his bottom -- works just like diaper rash in keeping his bottom dry at night! Good luck!

When my daughter was about 10 months, we bought her some new clothes. Shortly afterwards, she broke out in a red rash all over her legs. It was really strange. The bumps were tiny and almost scaly. I thought it was dry skin at first, but the pedi said it was probably an skin reaction to the clothes! I usually wash everything, but I soon realized there was one pair of pants I missed. Apparently clothing stores sometimes spray a product on their clothes to make them stay unwrinkled.
Anyway, we used a prescription hydrocortizone cream, and it went away in a week.

It could very well be dry skin or a kind of diaper rash. We use the Boudreaux's Butt Paste too, as other mom's suggested, and that stuff is amazing! Diaper rash is gone in like 24 hrs!

Hi, my 6 month old started to get bumps on her also. A lady in the new moms group that I atted suggested putting 1% Hydrocortizone cream on her. The bumps went away after a few days. I also put it around her mouth because she started getting bumps from all the saliva from teething, and it helped. I hope this was helpful. It helped my daughter.

Sometimes hydrocortisone creams do not work on things like that and sometimes they do. I have always had the best of luck with Boudreauxs Buttpaste. It may be a funny name but it works wonders! You can use it on burns, rashes and many other things. My son had a daiper rash that the other rash creams and prescriptions creams would not get rid of. My best friend told me of Boudreaxs Buttpaste so i decided to try it cuz i have already tried everything else. I WAS SHOCKED!!!! within 2 days his rash was almost completely gone. Try it out they sell it at Wal-mart, Walgreens, Target and a few other places now. Good Luck and Happy Holidays!
