Rash - Rohnert Park, CA
I have a 11 1/2 month old girl that started having a runny nose and a slight fever so at first I thought it was because of her teething but later found out it was a cold for which everyone in my house got. She started getting these little round bumps on her face, neck, stomach, arms, and etc. I thought she had the measles or something so when I brought her to the doctor she said it was a viral rash. Has anyone heard of this and if so what have you done to get rid of it? They told me to give her Benadryl for the itching but it looks like the bumps are more noticable on her face. The poor thing has it on her head she has sooo much hair you can't see it but I have to keep scratching it for her. Please Help....

My daughter gets rashes, and viral rashes, all the time. They say it is not a big deal and always give me Benadryll. Each time I end up giving it to her for at least 2 days round the clock and it goes away. I probably went to the doctor six different times, now more than likely I just use the Benadryll becuase it does still happen and she is 2. They started around 4 months. Good luck, cool baths may help with the itchting too. Aveno makes and oatmeal bath soak, use a little of that to conttol the itching, C.

Hello... My son who just turned 2 had a fever of 101.5 for 2 days then broke out in a rash over his belly, legs and feet for about 3 days. Dr. also said it was a viral rash. This was 2wks ago so something must be going around. I know of 7 other kids who have had this( fever with no other symptoms). With the exception of our kids developing a rash. Hope this helps. K.

Its really common for young children to have a rash accompanying the tail end of a virus - it's just another one of the bodies reactions to fighting a virus off.
Have you asked your doctor about roseola? Roseola is a very common illness in young children between infant and toddlerhood - you will notice your child having a fever and acting like he is sick for a few days, and just when the virus seems to be going away, the child will break out in a rash over their bodies (small round red bumps). The rash signals the end of the virus, and though it will take a few days for the rash to go away, your child will be essentially well even with the rash. Most, if not all, children will have roseola at sometime during their early childhood - look it up online or in one of your baby books. You'll find a wealth of information (which is really to just leave it alone until it fades) about it, and find that once your child has it once, it will never come back again. Its a childhood illness that we nearly all go through - if you have an older female family member that has had children, they will likely also be able to diagnose your child's rash too ;)

it might be hives. i had a problem with hives a few years back. i'd break out if i was too hot, or cold. anytime i took an allergy pill that was supposed to help, they got worse. if they are hives, they are caused by allergies. have you introduced anything new into her diet? my doctor had me keep a journal of what i ate and how the hives reacted, maybe you could try this and find the cause. good luck

I dont know anything about a viral rash, but a baking soda bath is great for the skin and always helps my son who gets eczema and very bad rashes below the waist. At the very least it can help to soothe the skin.
Good luck

I didn't want to believe the doctor when they told me the same thing. BUT, in fact it is true and very common. It was explained to me that it is like the virus exiting the body thru the skin and it looks far worse than it is. All we ever did was benedryl also. In a few cases the rash has been severe enough that they gave my son steroids, but most of the time it is not necesary. good luck.
