Raising a Tom Boy

My daughter is such a tom boy. She's my precious pint size jock of a girl. Loves a short bobbed hairdo and jeans and sneakers. But buying clothes for her is very tricky. She's got a curvy shape, not built like a boy so the boys clothes are out these days as they just don't fit her rigth. She is all about being comfy and nothing frilly or pink and now she's gotten rid of every dress she ever had. Are there any any suggestions for where to buy clothes that are more unisex for a girl's size 12?

What can I do next?

I was a tomboy till I was about14 (much to my mother's horror, I think she thought I was gonna be gay), my favorite piece of clothing was overalls. To this day I still have a pair of overalls, they are my comfort clothing. I still love guy boots and my hubby just bought me a cool new pair for Christmas yesterday.
I can be feminine when I have to, but dressing boyish is just so much more comfy. I've never been able to walk in heels so dont own any..... well I do have 2 pair for dress up parties, but I'm always thinking I'll sprain an ankle while I havem on.
Tomboys are fun girls and they get along better with guys because they arent naggy and anal.
My husbands first wife was a beautiful prissy woman, had to have designer everything. I remember my husband talking to his mom on the phone before our introduction and explaining to her I was a tomboy.... I thought it was funny because I didnt even know he thought of me like that.
When I was young, levis always fit me just perfect, it's usually easy to find the right size since they very grately in waste and length. So, try some Dickies overalls and some Levi's and maybe she'll be happy ;)
Sorry this was so long, but it sorta took me back to the good ol' days.

western stores. I am a tom boy through and through and love western clothes. I also love football and baseball jerseys bought in the girls department. sweats oh how i love sweats. but in western stores the clothes are girly but not girly. I also wear clothes bigger than most people. I wear extra large and am 120 lbs I cant stand shirts that cut into my arm pits so I prefer baggy. and yes boys clothes are so comfy and if done right can pass for girls clothes I steal my so clothes all the time and my sons and step sons for that matter too. :)

Gap Kids, American Eagle... lots of muted colors and shapes. A little expensive, but we always shop clearance.

Kohls and JC Pennies usually have clothes that are more muted in color and style. Of course, tons of trendy stuff too, but those things are out there. Lots of flannels too.

LOL... I LIVED at Tilly's in CA as a kid (surf & skate clothes).

In WA... the conversant is snowboard clothes. There may be a shop out n spokane. In seattle the store is http://www.snowboardconnection.com/ . Snowboard also doubles as "rockerish".

The trick on jeans are... wait for it... *jeans*. ((just no embroidery, sparkles, etc.)) For pants... try cargo pants. For WHERE to buy them ... hit up REI or your local skate shop.

In shopping for a tom boy, if she hasn't seen it yet, get her a little into Lara Croft MOVIES. Female action stars either go "super slut" (avoid, avoid, who can really do all of that stuff in a bikini or would want to is beyond me) or what real grownup tomboys tend to wear : comfy pants & tanktops / capsleeve shirts.

The thing about girlie clothes is:

A) They show your underwear and privates unless you're really careful (and careful isn't fun)

B) people are always telling you not to get them dirty, and they come in colors that stain and look awful after a good rough and tumble.

C) They're just not made well. They don't stack up to actually playing in them.

Surf/Skate/Snowboard... REI/ outdoor clothes.

If you have a friend who sews or a reasonably priced tailor in your area, perhaps they can help with the fit. Also, if you can shop at Marshalls, TJMax, etc, where things are less expensive, perhaps you can find some "low frilly" things and de-frill them at home. Take of the decorations, dye the pink with blue so you get purple, etc. It could be a fun project for her too - she'll be making the outfits HERS, which is a great way to show her personality :)

I also googled "tween clothes tomboy" and this site was one of the results.

Maybe you can find some others :)
