Quinoa

Where do you buy your quinoa? I've checked 3 local grocers (Kroger, Meijers, Walmart), and no one has heard of it. Is this something that is only carried in health food stores?

Thanks.

What can I do next?

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try Trader Joe's this week and I'll check again at Kroger. I wasn't quite sure exactly where I would find it. I thought it was a cross between rice and barley.

I would expect Meijer to have it, look near the rice or on the international food isle. I usually get mine at Trader Joe's in Northville. Its a good price. You can also get it at Zerbo's healthfood store in bulk.

I bought a huge bag at Costco ! (Now if I only knew some recipes. LOL) It's a pretty common staple. Do you have an Albertson's there? Ask a grocer to special order it for you as an option or you could buy it off Amazon too.

We love quinoa!
Albertson's carries it here. Sometimes they have it on the aisle with the rice and pasta, sometimes on their "Wild Foods" aisle. It varies from store to store.
And you can buy it in bulk at Whole Foods.

Our local Trader Joe and Whole Foods carry it, but we personally buy it in bulk online because we use it a lot and can get it cheaper that way.

I buy it all the time at Meijer, it is in the ethnic section, next to the couscous and other "non-american food". It works out great because the Meijer I go to, it is right across the isle from my gluten-free section and a lot of the non-american food doesn't have wheat in it. They used to carry really good rice cracker/cookies from Israel with chocolate on them- yum! I've also bought a really big bag of it at Kroger, it was on the bottom shelf next to rice and beans in a generic looking bag. At Meijer it is in a plastic container and they carry 3 varieties, one plain, one with raisins and almonds and another with mushrooms and other things in it.

I buy it at Kroger, HEB and Whole Foods. I've usually gotten it form the bluk foods bins, but I have gotten it in a box.

I get it at safeway and savemart.

our local grocery store has it bottom shelf in a torquoise box on the grain/rice/barley aisle.

I think whole-foods sells it too.

What planet to these people live on that they've never even heard of Quinoa? It's talked about in every magazine I read!

Do you have a Trader Joe's by you. That is where I get mine.

Hi T.-

That is where I find mine...and an asian market near my daughter carries it as well...

Best Luck!

Quinoa is sold at Kroger - in the organic section. If you still can't find it, ask a manager and if the manager isn't sure, tell him/her you heard it is in the organic section. I buy my quinoa at Costco. They sell a big bag of it!

And yes, all health food stores sell quinoa, but so does Kroger, so don't give up on that just because one employee told you wrong!
