I was just told by my ex that I could spend 2 hours with my daughter that will be 5 tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas on fun finger foods or snacks to celabrate her birthday? I don't want to make a full blown dinner and cake and then bring her back to her dads knowing she will be eating with him. I will decorate the house and make her feel like a princess, but the food I am having a problem with. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My sister made Shells & Cheese, then cooked hot dogs and sliced the end of the hot dogs to look like an octopus. Slice the hot dog all the way through, about an inch and a half down from the end, (lengthways). Turn the dog and slice all the way through again so you have four "legs" then slice each leg in two lengthways. You end up with a little octopus's. She set him on top of the shells and put two dots of Katsup for the eyes. Sooo cute! She did a fish theme, You could decorate Little Mermaid. Gold fish crackers and Swedish fish would be cute too! I don't know if that would be to much food. You wouldn't have to put very much Shells & Cheese on her plate, just enough for the effect. Good luck.

I dont know if this will help you today or not but what I did for my daughters birthday this year is a tea party. You can use punch instead of tea if you dont think the kids will like tea. I used her play tea set and just made little fun shaped sandwiches by useing cookie cutters. I also had cup cakes instead of a big cake and she loved it. she definatly felt like a princess.

Well my guess by what you are saying is that you and the ex need to communicate better. If you are getting her at 5pm then I would think he is probably figuring you are going to feed her dinner; that is if you are going to have her for 2hours right during dinner time.

a big hit with the kids is a tower of peanut butter and honey (or jelly) sandwiches. alternate some wheat bread/some white. Cut into triangles (1/4) and trim off the crusts. stack in a circle on a plate. quick and easy!

also-fruit on a stick is pretty quick--like grapes and melon or strawberries. you can buy already hunked at the store. Frill picks are a great hit too--at meijers or GFS. they are colorful and the kids love them! HOpe this helps in time.

I would say make her favorite sandwiches and cut them into quarters. Make a tea party out of it. If she likes PB&J, so be it. If she likes hot dogs, cut a few into thirds, wrap them into cresent rolls with a 1/2 slice of cheese and bake the cresent rolls according to the instructions. The fruit cobobs usually go over well (and a small pre cut bowl of fruit isn't too expensive for a princess) :)
Add her favorite drink and let her help with decorating a few cupcakes when she first arrives. (You can probably get just a few of those at the bakery in the local store also so everything is ready.)

You then have a light lunch, something to drink, and a quick dessert. You get to have fun decorating, eating and opening a present or two - a fun party for any 5 yr old! :)

Good Luck and Make the BEST of the moment with her, don't worry so much about the "little" details. What she will remember is the time with you, not so much the details of the food.

First off, I am sorry you only have a couple hours w/ your daughter for her birthday. Unfortunately I don't have a daughter, but what comes to mind is a tea party. Maybe make those mimi-muffins or cupcakes (and put a candle in one). You two could cut out jello shapes together. Have a platter of fun (kid)finger foods(apple slices w/ peanut butter, string cheese bites, goldfish, granolla bars). I wouldn't worry too much about your exs' plans just have a great time with your daughter! My baby boy just turned one on Mon. and the whole day I was just reminiscing about that bond only a mother has! I'm sure whatever you do your daughter will look back and appreciate the time and love she felt!

You could always bake cupcakes tonight and buy some stuff to decorate them with her tomorrow.

Go on-line and look up fun finger foods for 5 year olds and I bet you'll find some good stuff. Or even look up finger food for kids (birthday) - there are probably a ton of things on-line.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!!!

considering that you only have two hours with her (which breaks my heart), don't worry about all of the other stuff. Make it all about her. She's going to want the cake and ice cream. If the food that you're having a problem with is only for the other guests, don't worry about it. I fear that if you put a huge effort into making sure that everyone is fed, then that will end up becoming your prime focus instead of your daughter. The short time that you will have with her will be precious. Don't let anything else take your focus away from her. Good luck

Well if your going with the whole princess theme. You could do little tea cakes and mini sandwiches cut with little flower cookie cutters and tea or juice in pretty little cups like a tea party if she's into that stuff it will be fun easy and memorable.
