L.,
first,he's 7 months old, give the kid a break! : )
Teeth sound fine.
Rocks? Okay, that's about right too, he's not mobile yet. Jumps? no, can't expect that just yet - some might but most don't.
he won't do a lot at this age.
2nd baby isn't as fast as the first. Unless the first is chasing him.
no, he won't understand his legs just yet. he's still learning.
get some rhymes and games going - just baby/mama games mind you - baby in mama's arms - play peek a boo, play ride the horse - give a LOT Of support.
To compare siblings may be to compare night and day - or apples to apples. You can't judge. You CAN get different opinions. Nothing you can do now is going to speed him up.
The sickness he should be through - if he's breastfeeding. if he's drinking formula, all bets are off, because there is no immunity passed through to him. Then - too - if he is breastfeeding, maybe Mama needs more vitamins and less stress in her life, so she is giving more milk and support to her baby.

Good luck,
M.

Go get a second opinion or take him back to his doc. It may have become something else in a months time. I would get a humidifier for his room as well. Don't let the mist directly hit the area he is sleeping in. The dryness of the heat and the cold air can cause cold like symptoms. As far as development see if your daughter/ Daughter in law would mind you coming to the appointment with her. I would try to research milestones.
Good luck and take care.

Use a snot sucker and clean that nose out several times a day. That will get rid of the congestion. It needs to come out. Bundle the baby in a blanket and just hold him down to do it. Have some tissue or paper towels near his head to blow out the goo so you can go back in right away and suction out more.

I would keep an eye on this child's development and if he is still not doing more in a month I would take him to the doc myself and talk to them about it.

on parentcenter.com you can log on and register your kiddo's ages, they will send you weekly and monthly emails about "Your baby should be entering this stage now". It is very fun and entertaining but is seriously what they should be achieving at such and such age.

When babies are sick at this age, it can drag on for a long time. Don't hesistate to keep bringing him back. If he's getting a long okay, it's best to let his body fight it. But let the doctors determine that.

About his development, he probably doesn't have a lot of energy right now being sick like that. Hold him up a lot, hands under his armpits and encourage standing with you holding him. He'll start to use his legs more when he's ready.

It sounds like he is very normal. My daughter (who is now 8 and has, knock on wood, had a very normal development) started to crawl when she was about 9 months old. For about a month before that, she would rock back and forth on her hands and knees. I guess she was trying to figure out crawling.
All children are different. I have twin boys and they did things weeks or months apart from each other, developmentally. For instance, one walked 6 weeks before the other did, one got teeth a month earlier, etc.... If there is something wrong, the pediatrician will notify the mom. But can't hurt to raise these issues at the next doctor's appointment. If he has been congested and has a cough for a month, that is a separate issue and maybe he should go back to his doctor sooner than later.

I think that he development is fine; I think that like you said every baby develops differently. I think babies do the rocking sometimes for comfort (rythmic motion like when you rock him in the chair)
I would take him back to the dr (or get a second opinion) if the little guy is still not feeling well. I know with my little one, I'd take her to the dr and they'd say she has a virus or cold....she wouldn't seem any better so I'd take her back and it turned into an ear infection or strep throat.

My first son was a screecher! He didn't babble much or do the mama dada. He would scream! Like a playful, happy, loud horrendous screech lol. Normal! I have a friend whose baby didn't crawl until 11 months. Normal! Rocking is a soother. Normal! Take baby back to the Dr about the cough though...

And just wondering, why did you mention about his teeth? It doesn't matter that the top ones came in before the bottoms ones.

He sounds completely typical and on target to me. All children are different and grow at their own pace. Stop comparing him to your own children. If they were crawling by 8-9 months then they were advanced/early crawlers. There's nothing wrong with your grandson.

Having a cough after having been sick a month ago is normal. Coughs can take a while to cycle out. The problem would be if the cough gets worse or lasts another month. Then I'd have him checked out again. It's also normal at this point to hear the congestion while he's taking his bottle. Babies have a unique ability to breathe at the same time that they're drinking and swallowing that adults don't have, so they often sound congested while they're drinking anyway.
