Questions About Avon
Has anyone had experience working for Avon... or selling Avon? My bestfriend said that she is doing it on the side while going to college, working as a server at the restaurant she has worked at through college, and raising her daughter while her husband is in Iraq. She says that it's easy money for her.
Any suggestions on this? I am desperate for a job, and if I do Avon, at least I can do that while still looking for something. And, I figure it's something that I can do on the side as well... for extra money. Help?

I am an Avon representative and have been for just over a year.
As far as easy money, it depends on how much you want to "work" it. People who work it "full time" certainly do make easy money!
I, on the other hand, just more do it just as a extra thing on the side. I am making some money but not as much as I was hoping. But, I am getting what I would expect for the amount of time I put in.

OK, you are obviously getting a lot of sugestions here from ladies who sell all sorts of things, so I will throw mine into the mix. Unlike Avon, MaryKay, PartyLite or Pampered Chef (which in many areas are already saturated with consultants), Big Yellow Box by Crayola is only two years old, and very very new to FL in particular. I am a Team Leader with them (in Bradenton) and I must say the nicest thing about this company is that it is from CRAYOLA--a household name that everyone knows. Not to knock some of the other companies mentioned here, but I have not heard of them (so others probably have not either), and it is not uncommon for home-based party businesses to close down after a few years. Plus, you have to fight against ignorance--people not knowing the brand. Big Yellow Box is a direct product line of Binney and Smith. We sell all-inclusive craft kits for kids and adults of all ages and skill levels--the best part is that it truly supports people spending time together, sharing memories and being creative. And everyone knows Crayola's quality! Like all plans, you can work around your schedule, and you get out of it what you put into it. Let me know if you'd like to see a catalog--I can mail or e-mail you more info, or talk on the phone. It's a choice that really fit my lifestyle and interests--and I had never done anything with direct sales before.

I sold Avon my senior year in HS (unfortunately that was 20 years ago) it is like any direct sales, you will make what you put into it. If you are internet savvy or have friends all over the country you can check out the two companies under my signature. Stuff N Snuggle is free to sign up and comes with a website and Usborne books is only $25 kit with free shipping and 6 months of free website. There are lots of opportunities out there with direct sales that you can make money. Check out a few and see which one is best for you. Call me anytime if you would like to hear more about these two.

Hi S.! In addition to the advice you have already received about Avon and as a way of making residual income on the side, you may want to consider looking into something that has caught my attention. If not, no worries and I truly wish you and your family the best of luck!
I have been a member of MamaSource since my son was born last summer (June 2006) at Winnie Palmer Hospital. Following my 3-month maternity leave, it was financially necessary for me to return to work as a corporate investment banker, even though I craved the opportunity to be able to stay at home with my baby. Following a corporate reorganization at my work in late 2006, which required my colleagues and I to choose between relocating to another office out-of-state or accepting severance packages, my husband and I decided to take a leap of faith - and I took the severance package. In a short amount of time, I was introduced to an extremely innovative product and income-producing opportunity that I could accomplish from home - called "Send Out Cards". Like many of you, I had been frustrated with the lack of quality work-from-home opportunities - never knowing what was ligitimate and what was not. Send Out Cards is an all-around "good", allowing you to touch the lives of people you interact with every day in a thougtful, meaningful way.
Send Out Cards - A Revolution in Communication!
Imagine being able to create hand-written, high-quality cards blending the modern ease of e-mail and personal digital photos with your own handwriting and signature.
This means never having to step foot in a card store again. Peruse thousands of options online and quickly design your next "Hello", "Thinking of You" or a simple "Thank You". You can even include gift cards and personal checks! After you design a greeting at sendoutcards.com web site with all the tools mentioned above, the Send Out Cards system prints it, stuffs it, stamps it and mails it to your recipients.
Build an on-line database of friends, family and clients and never miss a chance to make them feel great - the system reminds you of their birthdays, anniversaries and other important occasions in advance!
Approach and follow-up with customers in an unforgettable way by designing custom correspondence around your business. Existing logos and marketing materials can be easily uploaded for maximum emphasis!
Build your own business as a Send Out Cards licensed distributor and earn residual income for years to come!
Call or e-mail me to recieve a free gift account and experience this fun, simple, and time-saving innovation for yourself! Absolutely no strings attached! There's also a lot of good information and audio/visual presentations at the website listed below that highlight the opportunities at hand! I've got friends who have home-based businesses. None of which were mentioned in the other responses. Definitely find an area that you're already interested in and can become passionate about. Several opportunities are out there. I'm a pampered chef consultant. One friend does Cookie Lee (jewelry that's very popular and isn't that saturated in this area yet) and Tastefully Simple (food mixes and seasonings mostly). Another friend does Stampin' Up (rubber stamping). If you want more information on any of these, give me an email and I can get someone to talk with you. I know a few people that do Avon. One is my mother-in-law. None of them make enough money to make a difference. It's enough to cover business expenses and a few extra dollars here and there. That usually gets spent on things like dinner out or a new outfit or towards Christmas gifts.
The best thing you can do if you want to have a home business like this is find someone who has success in the business already to be your recruiter. There are plenty tips and guidance a good recruiter can give you to get you on your way.
Good Luck!
Email if you would be interested in any of the businesses listed above.
