Question for iPod Users
I just bought a new iPod Nano and have no experience with one. Other than the Apple website, are there other places to download music? I am not looking for free downloads (I think people should pay for the music) but was wondering if there are places that are better or cheaper. Thanks so much!

I have a subscription to www.emusic.com. For $10/month you get 30 downloads. They mostly focus on independent and alternative labels, so they won't have all of the mainstream popular music, though they do have a great selection and are constantly getting new stuff. All genres - classical, rap etc. They give you 50 free for signing up.
If you decide to sign up with them let me know first because I think I get some number of free downloads if I get listed as a reference.

Hi B.. I have a Nano and my daughter has a shuffle. we love them both. they are so easy to use (for both of us =)
We use itunes.com it seems to work the best, the easiest and it is compatible for both of our products. Also, it is really easy to take cds that we already have and pick and choose the songs to download and put on the ipod. also, the suggestion about going to the library was a great one!! Good luck, enjoy!!
PS itunes right now has free sesame street downloads

apple uses a different format for their music files. they use mp4 instead of mp3. so if you download free mp3's you cannot put them on your ipod unless you have software to convert the mp3's to mp4's. apples approach to music downloading is a trifle communistic in that sense. so if youre looking for something that you can download free music i suggest an mp3 player like the zune. but other that converting the mp3 files to mp4s theres no other way to get them on your ipod. apple sucks.

I don't have a specific website to recommend, but anything you get you can put onto your iPod by dropping and dragging into the iTunes library. It took me awhile to figure out how to add music without using iTunes. I love my iPod now that I have figured everything out. Enjoy.

I don't think you're going to find anything cheaper (songs are only 99 cents on iTunes), but you can check eMusic or Rhapsody. eMusic has a monthly fee with a download limit -- I don't know what it is, but my husband uses it and loves it.

You can go to the public library and look for cds that you like and copy the music to your ipod. :-)
That is the cheapest way!

My Husband has just told me that you can buy a $50 iTunes gift card from Costco for $45, which is a 10% discount.
And, Walmart has downloads .94, which is still a little cheaper.
