Question About Returnign to Birth Control After Giving Birth
Hello all. I recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. I recently had my six week postdelivery check up and asked to be put back on the pill. I know there is a time frame where my husband should wear a condom until my body readjusts to the pill. Can any one fill me in on that time frame. I may want more children in the future but not right away!! Please advise. Thank you.

I believe its 1-3 months dependng on your pill and ease of getting pregnant. I was fine almost right away, I had such a difficulty getting pregnant I wasn't really worried about it. But it doesn't hurt to take the precaution. I would double check with your OBGYN, but most likely if you go through a cycle and you're regular the pill is obviously doing its job! Good luck with your new baby boy, so much easier the 2nd time around! Jennifer

Hi,
I also returned to the pill after delivering. My obgyn told us to use condems for 2 months just to make sure the pill was fully in my system. Yes, we did use them for the full two months, especially since when my daughter was only 4 months old I became pregnant with my son....didn't want that to happen again. But we are soooo happy he is here with us. I would stick out the two months with condems just to be safe.
Congrats on the new baby!!!

Generally with the new lower dose pills you should not depend on them for the first month. Congrats & best wishes!

What did you doc advise? I think each pill may vary with their recommendation. Seems to me it was after the first cycle (month) but sometimes I had to wait for two cycles. Call you doc and ask, or ask the pharmacist when you pic them up, on what your particular pill recommends. Congrats on your new baby!

You should ask your doctor, but most of them recommend at least a month. If you're going on the "mini-pills" (progestin only, no estrogen), they'll recommend a backup method.

I just went back on the mini pill Jolivette because I am still breastfeeding. Doc said 3 weeks for the pill to work but I waited for an entire cycle of pills, just in case!

I also went back on the pill after having my son. As far as I know you have to use a backup method for the first month of pills. After that they should be in your system and no problem.
