Question About Leash Training...

Since she goes outside while off leash you can teach her a command for potty. When you let her outside to go give her the comand go potty, or whatever you want to use. While she is going keep repeating the command. when she is done, reward her. Eventually she will learn that this command means you had better go now. Do this for awhile, a week or so, try taking her out on a leash and giving her the command, when she goes you make a HUGE deal out of it. LOTS of praise, treats, petting, everything. It will probably only take one time and she will get it.
This command works very well if you travel or visit places where you need her to go at a specific time or place.

Try taking the dog to your backyard on a leash to go to the bathroom. Encourage her to go and be patient, eventually she will understand that she is to go to the bathroom even when on a leash. Good luck.

Our dogs were well trained and they learned to go potty on command. We used the command "hurry up" which sounds inoffensive in public! They were able to use the small patch of potty area when we had them in parades. It was useful at home, too, because they knew what to do when they went outside. A trainer is a huge help!

We are in the same situation. We have a 5 month old border collie. I would be appreciative of the same help!

yep the command is exactly what you'll need to work on...and yes make a HUGE deal about it when she responds positivly. it can also be a great tool because you can give the command before going on a walk...i haven't picked up a dog pile on a walk in ages! and sometimes dogs just don't want to go on a walk. my dog is always too stimulated and excited. he's got all sorts of things to explore that he hardly has time to go potty! but yes...you'll need a command to work on in the yard, then wherever you are they know the response for that command! good luck!
