Question About DVD Player in Minivan

Talk to the dealership where you got the car. Better yet, ask them what company installed it (they always outsource these kinds of things) and talk to them directly. You just need to get the sound wired differently. Wither through a different source or through a radio station. I've had them both ways.

We have a dvd in the car. It came with 2 of those headphones your talking about. Read the manuel. I can't remember how we did it but we now just turn on the dvd and the sound comes out the radio speakers. what brand van did you buy? if its a dodge grand caravan?

Read your instruction manuel. It will tell you how to do it. It is possible.

What kind of van? Didn't they wire it to the sound system? We have one that was factory installed but there is a mode button on our dash stereo and if you toggle through the options you can hear the movie...which I wish we too had 4 head sets...then I wouldn't have to hear the Incredibles with them...

We bought our van used and the wireless headphones did not come with. I looked into buying them but they are 150 each, no way am I spending that. I did find out that the sound plays thru the cars speaker, you just can not listen to the radio you listen to the movie. My sanity is more important than the radio so it has worked out great. Hope it works for you!

I had a hard time figuring this out too. I just took it to the dealership and asked the guy who sold I to me to show me how to change it over to speakers.

It doesn't have any outlets for headphone jacks? Ours has a couple, though I am not sure how they are marked, but we can just plug in regular headphones for those sitting nearest the dvd player. It also came with 2 sets of wireless headphones. They are heavy and really pretty bulky for the younger kids but it is nice to be wireless. We have the option of setting it up so the movie plays through the speakers or we can set it to headphones and be able to listen to the radio in the front. It took us some trial and error to get it all figured out so I can't really tell you exactly how it may be done in your van but I would guess it is somehow possible. I would save myself the time and just go back to the dealership and have them show you how it works.

Did you try changing the feed on the stereo. On ours you have to switch the stereo to "disc" then it plays the sound from the dvd.

If that doesn't work, go to the dealer and ask them to show you how.

ours does - call service and ask. I can't imagine that would be the only way. We have three kids also and we always negoitiate to get four headsets as part of the deal. You can purchase extra headphones but it would be nice to get them for free.

Go to radio shack. They have a fm amplifier. You can connect the amplifier to the dvd player, and you can choose from 3 stations on your radio. Or we have also tried hooking it up to our tape deck with one of those tapes with a long jack on it and connect that to the dvd. After all that, you might prefer headphones because you can't listen to music anymore.

Yes, you can listen to it without headphones and you can get another pair of headphones. Ask your dealer. They can get you another pair but it might cost you. Our dealer gave them to us because we have 3 kids too. It also should tell you in the instruction manual how to get sound throughout the car.

What kind of van is it? I have a Sienna and it comes out over the speakers.

When I was growing up, my two older sibs and I traveled the US every summer in the back of our family car. No DVD's back then. We were creative in making up games and learning how to get along without TV, DVD's, and video games.

Why not skip it entirely. You'll be doing your kids and yourself a favor by increasing their creative and socialization skills.
