Call the doctor's office to make sure. I had some abnormal test results once and never called to find out because I assumed no news was good news. When I went to make next appt. and the doctor just then discovered the test results in my chart. She never bothered to check because the results arrived back while she was on vacation. Needless to say I was upset. Never be afraid to be proactive and your own advocate when it comes to health care.

I believe STD results are separate from your PAP results. Therefore, I would think that you have to call for the results of the STD testing.

My doc always told me that no news is good news. So I would not worry about it. If they said your pap is normal then they probably mean EVERYTHING was normal. If it is bothering you just give them a call and confirm. They are probably used to this!

I worked at any Ob/Gyn office for a long time. No news is always good news. They probably did a "gen probe" at the same time as the pap. The results of the std tests always come back before the pap results so if you heard about the pap and not the std tests, everything should be just fine. If they mailed you a card or left a message on your voice mail, there are privacy issues that may have precluded them from saying anything at all about std testing. If you have any concerns just give them a call and ask - thats what we nurses are for!!

I am sure if something urgent is going on they would immediately contact you and have you on antibiotics. However if you have reason to believe that there is a possibility, continue to call until you reach a human being.

I would think that the silence means that they are negative. They would be offering treatment and a phone call for a positive result. To be sure just call the office and say I got the postcard, does that mean all the testing done that day was okay? It will put your mind at ease and stop the worry you have going on.

As a nurse practitioner,if you have any questions about test results, you should always call the office and ask. Ultimately, you are in charge of your health care. Call the office to obtain your results.
