Quench the Stench
Have any of you found a brilliant way to keep diaper trash from stinking? We have one of those "Diaper Champ" trash cans, but the smell eventually seeps through. Thanks for the tips!

With my first I used the diaper genie, but it was a pain. So what I did with my second I put the wet diaper's in a bag and took to the front porch till I got a pile and with the real stinky ones they went directly to the big trash can outside.

I use the Arm and Hammer frig and freezer stick ons. they work pretty good, and you dont have the over powering smell of other air freshners.

I'm a nursery coord. and a nanny friend gave me the suggestion we use at work - we put a dryer sheet in a ziploc bag with the stinky diaper and trash goes out daily. My workers got too frustrated using the Diaper Genie and the Diaper Champ was just too stinky!

R.,
Honestly I had a diaper genie thing with my first and swore the diapers stunk worse in that thing than if I just walked them to the garbage can once a day OUTSIDE! Yup, once a day get rid of those stinky things. It will give you a break from the kids, or from the husband (if you send him out) and is a great excuse to stretch your legs. I won't be buying another diaper contraption ever again!!
I keep my plastic grocery bags from the store (i know, not very green friendly, but hey there is a good reason!) and you can put one in the bottom, tie it off and then put the next one just above that and tie it off as well. This will keep some stench at bay for the day. That is how I take them out of my house.
Good luck!

Ugh I had the same issue... I cleaned with bleach and still the smell was there...
So instead of throwing it out, I got a huge air freshener to put in the bottom. It was a big round flat one I found at Target and it works so well! It is actually more of an odor absorber so the smell coming out isn't too fruity, but I for sure don't smell stinky diapers anymore! I have loaded up on these things and change them every few months! You just plop it in the bottom and then stick you bad in like normal.
Good luck!

Toss the poopies in the trash can outside. :) I know of no miracle cure for this, other than getting the stench out of the house. I have a very sensitive nose, and thus this is what we always did. I keep extra plastic bags by the diaper area for just such occasions, and then hand carry them out.

After scrubbing ours with bleach several times, only to have the stink come back immediately, we ditched it. I now keep any non-recycleable bags that we end up with(cereal, dirty produce ones, etc) and stick them in a wipes box to use for poopies. We stick those in the kitchen trash and take it out more often than we used to. I think diaper pails are helpful for the first year, but lose their value after the kid starts eating a lot of real food!

Used a diaper genie for my first two, never could get the stench out with anything....by the third, I figured a walk to the outside garbage to dispose of the diaper was a nice little getaway.

Honestly, the only way to keep diapers from smelling up your house is to throw them away outside. There isn't a diaper bin on the market that can totally keep the smell away.
