Hi Mama's,

My six year old son finally has loose teeth but I have no idea how to make it comfortable for him to pull them when they are ready to come out. How do you do it? I'm totally new to this teeth pulling business. Any suggestions would help.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you moms for all your suggestions and experiences! Numbing tooth gel, sounds like a good idea if I end up being the one to help my son pull his tooth. However a lot has to be said about personal experiences and rite of passage. I think I will let him wiggle the tooth until he either pulls it out himself or tells me he needs my help which I will be offering. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again Mamas!

Well the tooth finally came out today and he pulled it himself. I have to say, I laid off and let him have control of the situation himself and in the end it was probably the best thing I could have done.

Make it a game if you really want that sucker out.
Tie a string to the door and his tooth and let him slam the door shut!

Nothing makes my skin crawl with the heebie-jeebies like a wiggly tooth hanging by a thread!
I believe my son's first, my husband popped out (with my son's eventual permission!). The second O. came out on the bus.
Just let them go...encourage your child to keep wiggling it. Most will come out on their own.

I have a friend whose mom used to get at the grandson with a little pair of pliers! And he would let her! LOL

For some reason the whole lose teeth thing made me really quesy. So I just had someone else do it, like dad. The kids will usually wiggle on that tooth until it comes out on it's own.

Hi L.,

Don't you remember being a kid and wiggling that tooth for days until finally you got up the nerve to just YANK!! A little scared but also so much pride! Running to show mom .. I'd let your boy have that same experience.

Oh, I am sooo with ReverendRuby on this one. I just could not stand to even look at those wiggly loose teeth. Poor child, he learned to "worry" them out himself with no help from me. We did have two that refused to come out, so the dentist just eased them out at his regular visits.

Thank goodness he has all of his adult teeth now!!!! Ewwww, just thinking about it makes me shiver. LOL

My kids refused to pull them out. So they just wiggled like crazy until they just fell out - usually when they were eating! and yes, a few got swallowed! LOL

My son likes me to put the numbing tooth gel around the loose tooth and then I get a tissue and pull, he doesn't feel anything. It is really loose and ready when we do this.

Good luck!

I usually dont pull my daughters teeth until they are literally hanging there. I dont want it to come out and her choke on it. You will know when its ready, I have tried before and its painful and they arent ready to come out. They could be loose for months too before they actually come out.

I wait until it's really loose and get some dental floss and get it in there really good and just pull. My son has lost 4 teeth. The first one I pulled using a paper towel to grip the tooth, second one he pulled and the last two was using dental floss. The floss was faster and he started to chicken out and backed up and I just pulled and they were out.

Come on everybody, queasy, ? weird ? scary ? Pulling ? its the most natural thing, my 6 year old is walking around with 2 missing front teeth at the moment , they were loose for weeks it seemed, before they came out on their own. They'll come out when they're ready, you do not need to do ANYTHING AT ALL. And yes, one came out and we have no idea when, also not a problem. let's worry about other things
