Pulling Kids from Preschool

I am pulling my son from his preschool after we found out the main teacher is a "bully". The parents from the school had a meeting and we all decided to pull the kids. We have had problems with the school in the past, some rectified, some not but since he has moved to the four year old class, things have become worse. One of the moms became so concerned she asked to spend the day there and that is when it all came out about the bullying of the kids and the parent who was there to observe. So, there are about 12 kids that have no where to go for pre-k. We do have a teacher, she was a teacher at the school that everybody adored but was for some reason let go last year after working for the school for over 15 years. We are looking for a facility where our kids and teacher can have a classroom. We are in the West Hollywood area. We are trying to come up with a solution on our own because the school will not budge for us. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi K.,
I would try a co-op so that you're there at the school -working! You'll see exactly what goes on. I noticed you live in LA, Los Feliz Nursery School if a very good school, also try the Jewish Community Center, Hilltop, Rosesharlin, etc. etc.

Good luck! And don't get discouraged. Many teachers out there are wonderful. You'll find the right one for your son.

Hi K.,
Sorry to hear your story. Must be very tough, both for kids and parents. Should you or any of the other parents be interested in exploring a pre-K class in a Jewish preschool, I'd be happy to help. There are a few that I know of that may have space for a group of you, although one parent in each family needs to be Jewish. Unfortunately, I don't believe that the teacher could be accomodated as well, although you never know. Feel free to contact me anytime or to give my phone number and/or email to other families.
Best,

What about one of the parks? There is a great one on Pico whose name escapes me, and another on La Cienega. I believe they both have some sort of community rooms. Good luck.

My suggestion is to host at one of your houses if possible, or if it is not possible for one parent to host each week, then why don't you make a list and each parent can sign up to do a few weeks during the school year on a rotating basis. That way, the scenery changes, and each week there will be new toys for the kids to play with, along with the teacher's ideas for the class. You can all volunteer to pay the teacher each month what you would have paid her if she still worked at the school. This way, you get the pre-k teacher you want, the same kids will be together, and as the parents, you can help make this year special for your children. Though this scenario will be more work for the parents(the hosting parent each week would be responsible for providing the snacks as well as their house), it will be valuable for your kids seeing you work together so they can stay together. My playgroup did a similar thing, and some of us(including me) are former elementary school teachers who are now SAHMs. I hope this idea works out for your group so that you can stay together.

Can I ask what school you've had the problem with? My family lives in West Hollywood as well. My son went to a fantastic pre-k class at the school he is still attending. His teacher was amazing and although she is no longer teaching there, I continue to hear good things about the pre-k. If you're interested in an already established class, please feel free to contact me.
