Pubic Bone Pain and Pain in Inner Thigh

I knew that pregnancy could lead to pubic bone pain, but I'm only 20 weeks along and it's already begun! So here's my story:

The pain I'm having started pretty early on, and I only noticed it when I was putting on pants (lifting one leg and putting all the weight on the other). About two weeks ago, I started having pain going from my pelvis down my inner thigh. It almost feels like my leg is bruised, and it is very sensitive to the touch. It also just hurts all by itself, whether or not I'm touching it or moving that leg. This morning, the pubic bone pain associated with putting on my pants got much worse. Now, it simply hurts all the time when I'm standing or walking. The inner thigh pain's not as bad at the moment, but could come back at any time.

So...my questions are...
Is this going to last the entire rest of my pregnancy? I'm only halfway there! Also, has anyone had the inner thigh pain and do they know anything about it? Is there anything I can do about either pain that I'm having besides simply taking Tylenol? Lastly, I still like to exercise regularly. Will certain exercises exacerbate the problem, or will certain ones make it better?

What can I do next?

Amy,

You poor thing. I had the pubic bone pain with each of my 3 pregnancies. It started earlier with each, and was progressively worse. Chiropractic might help, but my pubic bones would move and pop all by themselves (especially after sleeping, getting up at night was HORRIBLE) so I never tried it, I figured it was a lost cause to keep things in line. Yoga helped some for me. Talk to your doc or midwife, they may have some ideas well.

Amy,
I'm due on oct 21's and I've been having what sounds like the same pain but mine is in my hips! If I've been sitting down for a long period of time it hurts to walk! This for me has been going on for a month now! My doctor said it's just growing pains! I'm thinking GREAT, can't wait for some huge hips! The pain will go away, mine is still there but not as intense! I hope this helps!

This would be a great question to ask your doctor, you might not even need to go in. Just give them a call they may be able to answer your question on the spot but they also may ask you to come in if they want to take a look.

I remember having similar pain but I can not remember the doctor told me... I think I had the pain till the end, but I could take something but you have to talk to your doctor about that.

Amy,

I also had some of these issues when I was pregnant. Mine ended up being a vericose vein. The pubic one your speaking of was actually a perineal vericose vein for me. As I stood longer and longer throughout the day, my perineum throbbed.

Good Luck, it does get better, put your feet up more often.

Sounds like round ligament pain. It starts earlier and is more painful with each pregnancy. I had it super early with my third pregnancy and in places I never had it with my first two. There's not much that can be done about it (not sure if the chiropractor can help of not, I never tried). Just take things slow and rest when you need to.

Hi Amy
this sounds like the pain I had when my pubic bone seperated. (my body did to good of a job preparing for baby) The ONLY thing that helped with the pain was to have it adjusted by a chiropractor and she gave me some ball exercises to do which also helped after delivery. Good Luck T.

Maybe Sciatic(sp?)nerve pain? Mine is about in my rear end/LOW back, sometimes on one side, sometimes on the other. I am 34+ weeks and have been having this for quite awhile. Hard to walk sometimes, or put on pants with lifting each leg. Seems worse during the night, and in the morning. I have had a lot of hip pain too. I have had people suggest taking tylenol, and possibly wearing a maternity belt. I have just been living with it...so I don't have much advice! I have considered a chiropractor, but the thought of bones popping and cracking make me ill! Good luck!
