Anyone else have pubic bone pain around 25-30 wks in pregnancy. I remember experiencing it a little with my first pregnancy, but it seems more severe this time. It feels as if I'm bruised...very achey.

What can I do next?

Your pelvic girdle (pelvis aka pubic bone) is separated in the middle and is held together in the front by cartilage. When you get pregnant and especially when you are in the late stages of pregnancy those two pieces of that bone separate from eachother to allow more room for baby to pass through (thats why sometimes our hips stay wide after we have kids.) Sometimes it can be painful. I suggest taking an anti-inflamitory and maybe some tylenol for the pain. Hang in there, youre almost done!!

Mine was the most painful with the second pregnancy - sounds like it gets worse each time. I found that if I exercised every day it would help lessen the ache. I walked as much as I could and I did a lot of stretching/yoga moves. I also did warm soaks in our jacuzzi tub which helped a lot. It does get better though as soon as the baby is born. I was getting worried that it wouldn't get better, but it did. So don't despair, it's normal and natural. Just try and make yourself as comfortable as possible and just know this too shall pass.

OH! Yes, I remember that *very* well! Probably even more than the pain of childbirth. I have had pregnancies, and each time the pubic bone hurt worse. I asked my doc about it during my last pregnancy, and she said it's just the bone spreading ~ preparing for childbirth. And the muscles and such have done this before, and are possibly stretching further each time. It's normal, but it still hurts. Best of luck ~ and it will get better. . . after!

Hi M.,

I am due in July and am also having the same pain. I'm kind of glad to hear that you are having pelvic bone pain as well...well not glad you are having pain, but glad it's normal. See, I was in a motorcycle accident and I broke my pelvic bone just 2 weeks before I got married. I got pregnant a few months after we got married and was worried about it breaking again since it hadn't been very long since the accident. I didn't have any problems with my first pregnancy, though. Now that I am further along with my 2nd...the pain is worse there. I know that you can get pain there because of the separating of the joints to make room for the baby, but it is much worse this time. I'm glad to hear that it's normal to have more pain the 2nd time around...It feels like I broke it again. Good Luck with your preganancy! When are you due? I'm due July 24th.

This pain that you are feeling is called Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction, and is common during pregnancy. Unfortunately, most OBs (even midwives) believe that because it is common, there is little that can be done. I am a chiropractor specializing in pregnancy care, and I can tell you that this problem is very treatable. I find that my pregnant patients have near total to total relief in 2-3 treatments.

To find a chiropractor near you who specializes in pregnancy care, visit www.icpa4kids.org and click on Find a Doctor. I hope you find relief, not to mention all the additional benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy.

On a personal note, I am the proud mama of a 3 month old who was born at home with the assistance of a midwife and doula, so I applaud your advocacy of natural childbirth and attachment parenting. I am also the co-chair of the Kansas City doulas group, though motherhood and my chiropractic practice limit the number of births I can attend.

I hope you find the relief you want!

Yours in health-
Dr. Alyssa

Hi M.! I had that problem with my third child (also my biggest 9lbs. 13oz 22 1/2 inches) and I learned that a "pregnancy belt" deal was available and may help support the weight. It hurts like hell to have that pain and it doesn't get better unfortunately. My obgyn said it wouldn't hurt to try it when I mentioned it to her, so that is my suggestion to you. I've seen them in maternity wear stores. If you try it let me know how it goes, just curious. Good Luck!!

I had this plus the muscle that runs across the belly also cramped all the time. I spoke to my ob-gyn and he said this is normally especially for 2nd or more pregnancy. It's uncomfortable but nothing to worry about. If it really bothers you call your Doctor. Mine recommend a warm bath to soak in. I used a heating pad on low if it got to bad and didn't leave it on there very long. I had this pain plus the muscle spasms and sharp pains around my belly button most of my prenancy from 7mth on.

This pain hurt me the most when I would sit in a car for any length of time. I agree that it was worse with each child.

I know your pain!!! I experienced the same thing with my second child and it was far worse than my first. My doctor told me it was natural because my muscles and bones had changed from my first. It hurts, I know!! I didn't think it was natural but my female doctor kept reassuring me it was and she experienced the same thing. The only good thing I got out of it was having my daughter the day I was due compared to them originally wanting to wait for a week or two after my due date.

Just reading 'pubic bone pain' brought back the pain I felt with all 3 of my pregnancies. It was worse right when I got up from sitting down. It lasted all the way till the end of the pregnancy. It is the ligament in your pubic bone stretching. (not the round ligaments) Those belly supports helped a little bit.

Good Luck!
