I agree with Victoria. But maybe only because my son does karate with a young woman named Kaylie. I would KNOW to pronounce Callie like you like it, but starting with a "K", I would think "Kay-lee".

People will mispronounce it no matter what. Period.

~I read it like you want it...but I know a few Callie's and a Kali and a Calie. Kaylee is so popular that is probably what people first think of and believe it or not I think it is the 'K' instead of the 'C' that will throw people off!

My name is Karma. Doesn't really get any easier than that and I have had people look at it and then call me Karmee but mostly its always Carmen? Whats up with that?

I think its a cute name. Don't worry about her having to correct people...apparently we all have to do it :)

Kal-ly. Allie is al-ly so I would guess people would pronounce this kal-ly. However, even if the pronounciation is obvious, people will get it wrong, generally speaking.

I think that ANY name can get mispronounced, and you shouldn't worry too much about it unless the mispronunciation sounds inappropriate or ridiculous in some way.

my name is M., and I would considider it an easy name to pronounce... (MAY-gen) but I have had people mispronounce it: "MEE-GEN"- which sounds just awful to me...

My daughter's name is Rhiannon, and often people want to call her "Rihanna", "Breanna", "Briannon" and whatnot, and I simply correct them once or twice and generally they get it just fine. I love the name and no matter how many times I have to correct people, I am still happy I named her it!

I am sure you'll have to tell people, "oh its "KAL-LY"- and THEN they will probably spell it wrong, lol- like "callie or cally"- You'll get used to it! No matter what you name your children someday, SOMEONE will certainly mispronounce their name, no matter how common- so don't sweat it!

(although I can't blame people who misspronounce the name "Orangejello" hehehe!)

I am currently pregnant with my second child. Callie was our name choice had our baby been a little girl. We're having a little boy, but I'm still in love with that name. In my opinion, the way you are planning on spelling it (with a K) it sounds more like (Kay-lee) rather than Callie. If you're worried about this, I would consider changing your spelling.

Phonetically it should be KaL-Ly, not KaY-Lee. Incidentally, my niece's name is Hallie (pronounced Hay-Lee, not HaL-Lie.) In my opinion they spelled it wrong. She is always having to tell people it's Hay-Lee, not Hal-lie. So I don't think you'll have much of a problem.

I pronounced it your way when I read it. Because of the double ll and ie at the end. Some will do it wrong but it's a cute name, so go for it! My mother called me by my middle name my whole life so I either have to constantly tell doctors what I go by, had to tell teachers growing up etc or just had to be called by my given name and I turned out alright. I do give my mom grief over it though!! But I like my name and I am sure your daughter will too, even if she has to endure some mispronunciation :D

When I first read it I pronounced it KAL-LY. Sorry to say but, people are going to butcher her name and you will eventually get used to it. U have a daughter named Ashleigh pronounced like the more common spelling of Ashley. A lot of people tell me that is so unusual and I just nod and say we like it. When she started Kindergarten I had a mom of a classmate see her name and pronounce it ASH and then the LEIGH sounded like she said SLEIGH. She said how unusual. I told her how it was pronounced and this mom who I never met told me that I spelled my daughter's name wrong! My daughter now tells people herself she was named after the CNN reporter Ashleigh Bansfield!

All the best to you!

Quick EDIT - My name is P. (PAM-ela) and some people have pronounced it Pam-ELLA. My other daughter is Megan and people pronounce it MEE-gan.

Like other said, some will get it right, others wrong.

My name is A., pronounced "Anndra", not "Ondra", and during my 40+ years, I have been called Andrea, Sandra, Andre, Audrie, Audra, Andrew and Deidra (yeah, I can't figure that one out either. lol). Over the years I have learned that Andrea can be pronounced 4 different ways, and Sandra 2 different ways, and that some people would rather call be by a male version of my name because they just can't wrap their minds around that "missing e", (including my maternal grandmother). I learned very young to speak up for myself, and that's a great thing to be able to do. Not being afraid to correct a person on my name gave me confidence, and I believe was a major factor in my being a people person. I never let people continue to mispronounce my name once I've told them the correct way to say it, and on the rare occasions of stubbornness, I will intentionally call that particular individual by an incorrect name of my choosing until they get mine right. It never takes long :)
I am noticing as names become more diverse, or maybe because I'm not a child anymore, that more people are asking me how to pronounce mine, instead of assuming, and they will most likely do the same for your Kallie. Just teach her to have a sense of humor about it and to not be afraid to politely correct t those who get it wrong. Especially teachers, it's important that teachers get it right every time.

I love my unique name, and wouldn't change it for anything, even if I have to correct people for another 40+ years.

If you're worried about that you can always change the spelling around?

I grew up with that "issue"

Most people see my name and thinks its Hanna, the more common pronunciation.
Haha growing up, in school, whenever we had a sub teacher they would say my name wrong. Then my class mates would correct them lol
Also some people think that I was named Hanna and just think it sounds cooler to pronounce it differently. lol
I just have to say NO, Thats the name I was given. haha

I would pronounce it how you want it pronounced upon sight, but it's funny how many people pronounce so many things wrong...who knows. My last name NEVER gets pronounced right, and what stumps me is that, to me, it's very phonetic but yet people seem to WANT to pronounce it wrong. Mispronunciation is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, though, so I've named my children names that are unmistakable. I know several "Kallies" and I think they are spelled "Cally, Callie"...you should be okay.

People will mispronounce and/or misspell almost anything! Kallie looks like it should be pronounced as you intend. I knew a Callie, maybe with a c it looks less like kailey/kaley/Kali? I'd say kallie because of the two l's, but most people don't take the time to think before they speak ;)

My personal opinion is that kallie is a cute name for a kid or teenager but not so much for a doctor or other professional, should she go that direction. My friend Callie was actually Caroline, you could also do calliope, calista, karolina/Carolina, etc and call her kallie for short?

I think you are right that it will be mispronounced. the double "l" is propper phonetics to for the pronounciation you want, but i find that even educated people are phoneticly challenged. Maybe Cali, then people see it and recognize it as abveviation for California and might get it right more often.

My daughter's name is Anna. Pretty simple, right? I've had people call her Ah-na (as in 'aw'some). Bottom line is, no matter what your intentions, people will mess it up. I would personally pronounce "Kallie" as Kal Lee (rhyming with alley), but just as many people will call her Kaylee. Or Kah Lee Uh. Or Kuh Lie. Or Call Lee. She'll get used to correcting people, like most of her classmates will have to correct people on their own unique names. BTW, Kallie is one of my fav names (when I was a kid, "Kallie" was one of my !seven! imaginary daughters, lol).

Our cat is named Cali (KAL-LY). When I read Kallie I automatically pronouced it KAYLEE in my head probably because our cat's name is spelled differently. Remember your daughter is the one who is going to have to deal with people mis-pronouncing it. We named our daughter Logan and I'm constantly having to correct people (when she's not there since she's obviously a 5 year old girl) that its a "she" and not a "he". It didn't even occur to me that that would happen when we named her. Just something to consider on behalf of your daughter.

I'd pronounce it as a soft A, not a hard A. Per the English language, that is the proper way to pronounce that spelling of the name. Since there are two consonants following the A, then it should be a soft A. Of course, not enough people pay attention the rules anymore, especially with names. I also believe that is the way you want it to be pronounced?

I've always seen the name the way you want it pronounced spelled with a "C," but since you're putting two "L"s in it, people should know it has a short "a" instead of a long "a." If it only had one "l" then it would be (KAY-lee).

You know, people mispronounce names no matter what. I do think you will run into it more often with the way you'd like to spell her name, but I don't know if that's such a big deal. My son has a three letter name. THREE LETTERS! People mispronounce it all the time and I just correct them and move on. It's not a big deal to me.

When I first read it I *thought* KAY-LEE but saw the double "L" and realized it was KAL-LY.

If there is a reason that you are choosing that spelling, you should know you're going to run into a lot of mispronunciations as people quickly glance at the name and rattle it off since KAY-LEE is more common. If you're ok with that, then go for it!

Otherwise, why not spell in a way that's more traditional?
