Recently it seems like every time I comb my hair after I shower that I get gobs and gobs of hair coming out in my comb. I know that you lose 50-100 a day but have never lost hair like this before. Also, got it cut about a year ago and it seems like it is not growing at all or very very slow. Had complete blood work done last week and thyroid level was completely normal. Am taking a prenatal and biotin to improve but was wondering if anyone had any luck with anything else?? Maybe its just another crappy result of being in my 40's????

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just wanted to add that my hair is by no way thinning - I still and always have had thick naturally wavy hair but just remember seeing so much hair in my comb every morning after I shower. I also have my hair colored on a regular basis but I've done this since I can remeber. I have been under alot of stress lately too - new house, dealing with terrible 2's, work etc.

I had a lot of hair loss as a side effect of either low thyroid or the meds for it. Not sure which. I know that's not the cause of your problem, but I've known others who have had hair loss from a whole host of other things, including hormonal changes associated with aging (ugh, I know - you're only in your 40s). We tend to think of men as the ones who lose hair but women are affected as well. The fact that yours isn't growing so rapidly is kind of a tip-off too. I reversed my hair loss with comprehensive supplementation - that seems to be the key for a whole host of health issues. Based on the scientific seminars I've attended, I'm convinced that overall depleted soils and nutrient-deficient soils are the cause of the rise in preventable diseases. Cellular nutrition is the key - and you can't get it from pills or pre-mixed liquids or those junk protein shakes they sell at the gym. I chose, based on extensive study, a patented (proven safe, effective, unique) formula which took care of my hair loss, my breast cysts and my allergies, and I haven't had bronchitis or any illnesses in years. No one in my family has even had a sick visit in 5 years.

I also think the new research on epigenetics is going to be the breakthrough of the decade - our genes are made less efficient by the onslaught of poor nutrition (not just the processed foods and additives, but the poor nutrient levels in the fresh food we buy), environmental toxins, and aging. So the latest research on genes been helped back to their basic function without the damage caused by our lifestyles and genetically modified foods is the most exciting. There is a supplement now available to help with that too, and the major clinical studies by multiple research institutions (not those studies funded by the drug companies!) is extremely promising. I've seen additional results with that as well.

Based on my studies, I'd say the prenatal and biotin aren't doing as much as you would want.

It's aging. I, too, had thick hair and (at age 51) it is thinning as I get older. Most people don't notice it but I do. :)

Yep, aging is the problem. Does your mom have thinning hair?

I have tried everything.. The only thing i have found that really works for me is a product by Aveda. It is not inexpensive and NOTHING will regrow hair that is lost for women at this time..

.. This product helps you keep what you have,

It is called Invati. There is a shampoo, conditioner and a daily spray..
Like I said it does not regrow hair, it helps you keep what you have. I use it, every day.

It used to be that every time I washed my hair or wet my hair a ton of hair would be on my hands. Now MAYBE 2 hairs will be there, but most of the time none.

When I have had hair falling out as you described, it usually means I'm not eating well enough. Once I get back on track with my food intake, my hair stops falling out. Yes, it has taken months to get it back in order, but that is what I have found that attributes to my hair falling out more than usual.

Prenatal vitamins are awesome for hair growth (and nails). Since you are taking it and it isn't helping, I would assume you need to look at other areas in your life. Stress is also a HUGE factor in hair loss along with diet.

Good luck!

Try this:
Take one (dose) a day each of
Biotin
1 tbsp black strap molasses (sulfur source)
1 tsp FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth (silica source) (mix it with juice or water and drink it down) (a horse tail supplement (it's an herb) will work too.)

My hair growth rate will go from 1/2 inch per month to 1 inch per month.
But be warned.
You hair EVERYWHERE will grow quickly - under arms, on legs and your eyebrows will get bushy faster too.
My nails (finger and toe) will also speed up growth and when I do this I have to trim them a lot more frequently.

I have an auto-immune thyroid disease called Hashimoto's - my thyroid levels are within range but there are still some symptoms such as hair coming out. I keep it under controll by diet, taking evening primerose oil and coconut oil (I put the coconut oil in my coffee and cook with it). I only get a few strands out in the morning if I keep all this up.

Good luck.
