Probiotic During or After Antibiotic?
My 3 year old DS just started antibiotics for an ear infection. I want to give him probiotics to replenish the good bacteria but am thinking if I.give it to him now the good bacteria will get destroyed along with the bad bacteria. Am I better off waiting until he finishes the antibiotic? Also, I have the Culturelle for Kids packets. How much per day should I give him? Thanks!
So What Happened?™
Thanks :).

Both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One packet a day or whatever the directions on the package say. You want to preserve as much good bacteria as possible. Plus antibiotics can cause some bowel irritation and the probiotic helps that :)

Hi,
I have always taken a probiotic with each dose of antibiotic. I am not sure of the proper about per day, but the package should tell you.

I would do both (during and after). I know a child who became very sick w/ C. difficile while on antibiotics. Basically bad bacteria can take over when the competition gets wiped out.

I didn't bother with prescribed antibiotics when my child had an ear infection. Garlic oil droplets (made specifically for ear infections) and colloidal silver worked just as good (drops in ear) plus cleaned the ear w/drops of peroxide and let it fizzle (through in their favorite movie while doing this). Did this daily and alternated between garlic and silver, but nightly cleanings with peroxide. If it's antibiotics that are dropped in the ear, you're fine giving probiotics anytime. If it's antibiotics by mouth, give probiotics in between. If you give anti and pro via mouth at the same time, you're killing the pro with the anti!
