Private School Accreditation

I homeschooled for awhile in California. The state of CA really controls homeschooling. They provide everything which is nice. They follow the same things they are following in public school. They keep them so much the same that they can slip back into school seemlessly at any time.

As far as overseas homeschooling...no idea! If you are still considered a CA resident while overseas, they may have something to say about things. I don't know how that works.

As for private schools, sorry, no clue there either.

If you are moving mid-year, it might behoove you to just start home schooling so there is not such a huge upheaval. The move will be big enough.

When we started home schooling, I felt like it was too easy for me to be doing everything I was suppose to be doing, but alas, it IS that easy. I'm just south of you and home schooling in California is not that big of a deal. You have to submit your Private School Affidavit between October 1-15th, which the state does not post the paperwork to be available until October 1st. Nothing else is required, if you do that. If you sign up for a charter, that's another story.

I would start looking into curriculum now and see what excites you. Attending the Christian Home Educators Association (CHEA) conference was great for me, since many vendors are there and I can actually look over their books in person and decide. I believe their next conference is in July in Pasadena. There might be one in Northern Cal in April.

We do a mishmash of curriculum based on each child's interests. Our oldest loves to read, so we do more of a literature based curriculum with him.

If you want any help, let me know. It seems daunting at the beginning, but some pointers help get you pointed in the right direction, so you can choose what works for your family.

Also, if you decide to homeschool, getting a membership through the HSLDA is a really good choice. It's $100/year and you have attorneys that protect your rights from any country AND home schooling news and services.

I googled accreditation of private schools and found a slew of addresses. On cursory examination it appears that Christian schools are accredited by different organizations.

Our daughter is in Kindergarten at Mariners Christian School. Very happy with this school! And the school has many resources for our children and I feel they have a great academic program.
