Princess and the Frog Movie, Appropriate for 3-Yr-old?

I see the Princess and the Frog movie has made it to the $2 theater! Is it appropriate for my 3-1/4 year old daughter to see? What kind of scenes will there be that I might have to explain? (for example: Death? Foul language? Violence?) She's been exposed to PBS morning shows and a few other children's movies like Alvin & the Chipmunks.

Reviews and/or thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!

So What Happened?

Oh my! The Princess and the Frog movie was way too scary for my 3-1/4 year old daughter. She woke up that night and the next because of the shadows. And now we can't stop talking about them. This movie really scared her, I feel so bad. I will not be taking her to see any more movies that I don't preview myself - lesson learned.

My 3 year old went to see it with my hubby and I last month. She loved it! It was her first time to see a movie that wasn't just for a toddler showing....she felt big. :) There are a few scary parts, and it talks about voodoo a lot. But my daughter just said she was happy the mean boys went away...so I think the voodoo thing bothered me more than her. She was just happy to eat twizzlers and drink fruit punch. =)

Not to ruin the movie for you, but there are a few parts that my 3 year old found scary. The movie is set in Louisiana Bayou type of setting. There are references to voodoo type of "magic." And some evil spirits that are in the form of shadows. They were scary to my 3 year old. Not so much during the movie, but afterwards. At bedtime she is always looking around for shadows and asking me to get the monsters out of her room. We explain and explain and explain its make believe, don't get me wrong. And she's getting better with it. I just want you to be prepared. It was her first movie. And other than that, and the constant questions about monsters afterwards, she really did like the story line.

my 3 year old son saw it and it does have a few scary parts, and talks a lot about voodoo which i thought was a bit much. but overall at the end he asked to stay to watch it again...so just have a talk with her before the movie and after to make sure the scary parts don't bother her.

My son saw it when he was 3 yrs and 1 month. He wasn't afraid and it held his interest. There is a character called the shadowman, who is a bit spooky - voodoo-y but he goes away at the end. Also the lead character's father dies very early on in the movie. (It wouldn't be a Disney movie without at least one missing/dying or already dead parent!)

If your child is very afraid of shadows or boogeymen, i would think twice. Otherwise, it would be fine.

My 3 year old twins sat still (amazing feat for us) through the entire movie. They loved the story line and songs; however, there are a few scenes about the Voodoo magic that are a little dark and could be creepy for a little kid. I just told my girls that they never have to watch anything they don't want to watch, so one of them just put her head on my shoulder during those few scenes. I don't think it was any scarier (in fact less) than any other of the Disney Princess movies. You could always take her out to potty or get a snack if it seemed to bother her. My girls role play the movie all the time but haven't mentioned the "scary" parts at all.

It was a good movie! There was one scene at the end (where the good guys are trying to stop the bad guys) that got a little scary for my 3 1/2 year old. After it happened, she turned to me and said "Mommy, I was really really brave" which time me that it scared her a lot! But overall, it was very cute, and I would recommend bringing your daughter!

It depends on the child but I would think some of the voodoo scenes which are somewhat dark might be scary. The villain wears a voodoo mask which can be scary and the shadows can also be scary. My daughter is 5 and she was fine but mentioned those scenes were a little "creepy" (her word)to her but she would be ok.

I took my (just turned) 3 year old son and 4 1/2 year old daughter and they both loved it. I think movies depend on a child's temperament. My daughter is a little more sensitive and I think at 3 1/2 she would not have handled it as well. There are a few scenes that can be a bit intense and there is death (as in every Disney movie). I actually had to think hard to remember the death in the movie so it was not a huge deal nor was it super-sad. It worked out in minutes.
Good Luck

My girls loved it, but my youngest is 6--she was a little anxious about the voodoo/dark magic parts, but wasn't very upset. I see you've gotten some website suggestions that sound good. This is the one I count on: http://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews They go through every single part of each movie--all words that could be objectionable, every single event that could be scary or is violent at all, etc, etc, so that I'm completely ready for whatever is coming. They also review books, websites, DVDs and video games. They rated Princess and the Frog as good for 6 and up, but they can be pretty conservative-it depends on your kid. They just give you the info to make your own decision. Good luck!

If she likes Princess movies she will LOVE it. My four year old is still raving about it and we saw it before Christmas. SPOILER the little bug does die in the end, which my little one was pretty upset about but they actually do it in a way where he gets to be with his love. The bad guy scared her a little but he isn't any scarier then Jafar. If she saw Alvin and the Chipmunks she will probably be fine. I don't allow my children to watch that because I think the chipmunks are disrespectful and based on the ads there is an unnecessary if subtle sexual innuendo to it. I love Disney films and will definitely be adding this one to our collection when it comes out on DVD.

If I remember correctly this movie is a Disney movie, and I have not seen too many Disney movies that were inappropriate for any age. Look online on the Disney website..www.disney.com and see what they say. I myself have not seen this movie, but I would be willing to bet you she would enjoy it..
