Prices of Organic Milk

Costco has cheaper organic milk, at least here in WA. Trader Joe's also has lower prices than most places, I think.

An after thought (sorry, it doesn't relate to what you are directly asking about): I can't afford organic milk so I just make sure it's rBST free.

I'm surprised that your Walmart doesn't carry it, ours does, but only in 1/2 gallon, so we went to a more expensive store that had cheaper milk. We are now having our milk delivered though, and it is even better.

I usually buy the one that's on the weekly sale at my supermarket.

I buy mine at Trader Joes. Costco sells it, but I think it costs the same as TJs.

Target carries Horizon for a decent price.

I don't buy organic milk anymore -- we drink a ton of it and it was just too pricey. I do buy hormone free milk as much as possible. Target's store brand (Archer Farms?) is hormone free and usually costs around $2.10/gal. I think this is the best price. I second the comment about Whole Foods' 365 brand too.

Don't micro scrutinize the price on the organic milk. Just buy it. Cut your costs elsewhere in your overall family budget. The organic groceries vs non organic ones unavoidably cost way more, yes. So many people I know think we're crazy for our expensive organic groceries, but we have and air tight thin budget in other areas and don't spend on lots of things they do. Buy it wherever it is most convenient to you, consider it an important "utility bill" and do your best to find it by the gallon, which is less than smaller sizes. Good choice!

We just discovered the brand Sassy Cow at our local produce market- it's organic and comes from a near-by farm in WI. It's $4.99 a gallon. Other than Sassy Cow, we'll buy our organic milk from Trader Joe's or Whole Foods (mostly their 365 brand).

I think Trader Joes generally has the best prices on Organic Milk ($5.99/gal). If you can find it for under $6, you are getting a deal.

After reading the other posts I would say stick to organic if you can afford it. Just hormone free means the cows are still just fed corn...GMO corn. Which means it is genetically modified to grow faster. Not something I want my kids to have! So, If you are going to worry enought to go organic...just do it right :)

Jewel carries a brand called Wild Harvest that is organic. From what I hear, that is your cheapest bet. Otherwise, you can print out coupons from Horizion each month to offset some of the price. Also, I noticed that the expiration dates on organic is much later than that of traditional milk so you can buy a bunch when they do go on sale. Good luck!

Meijer and Jewel have it for $5.99/gal (store brand). That's about as cheap as it gets in my experience.

Many people think that Whole Foods is way more expensive then other stores, but it is just like any other store, some things are more expensive then others - it depends on the product. I have found many items are less expensive there than at major box stores. They periodically have milk on sale so I stock up then since organic milk usually has later experation dates.

Whole Foods 365 brand which is EXACTLY the same milk that organic valley sells but in a different package. you can tell by the codes on the milk. they are from the exact same supplier. just ask an employee, but its a dollar cheaper!

Horizon and the one they sell at Costco are from terrible companies!

I asked a similar question a few months ago. I was directed to Trader Joes and Whole Foods - for their store brand of Organic milk. I typically buy at Trader Joes, $5.99 a gallon, because then I get their organic yogurt which is cheaper than at Whole Foods. Hope there is one in your area.

I buy the organic milk at Costco for my daughters; it's the cheapest price consistently, though you may occasionally find a sale that is cheaper elsewhere. Also, if you are only worried about getting hormone-free milk, Costco's regular milk is very cheap and hormone-free. I buy that for my husband and I, and don't stress when we run out of organic milk and I have to give my daughters some of our milk.

I suggest that you call the stores around you that you would ordinarily also shop for the rest of your groceries and ask for their prices. You don't want to go to a store where the milk costs less but then do the rest of your shopping elsewhere. You'll eat up your savings in gas and time. Therefore, also notice when you first shop where you're wanting to get milk, the prices of their other foods.

I've found, over the years, that different grocery stores have lower prices on some things and higher on others. I choose which store to use based on the average price of all the foods I buy as well as it's location and convenience.

My daughter buys organic milk as well as some other groceries at Trader Joes. She does her main shopping at a Fred Meyer that is located just a few blocks from her house.

I have been buying organic milk for 4 years -- when I got pregnant with my first child. However, since then, you can find many non-organic brands that do not contain milk from cows given hormones, assuming that is your main/only issue with "conventional" milk. I have recently started buying the non-organic Whole Foods brand which is cheaper than organic.
