Just wondering what everybody out there does in their familis for Valentine's Day. Do you all give presents to your kids. My husband doesn't feel it's necessary and I say a small gift is very nice. Just wondering what other families do.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses and I got some really great ideas. It's always nice to know what someother people are doing. We never go overboard either, I was just going to buy them each a movie but my husband insisted on doing nothing. So was just curious on what everybody else did. Thanks a Bunch and I hope you ALL had a great Valentine's Day!!!!!

I make heart shaped foods for breakfast (toast w/strawberry jam, pancakes, waffles, etc) paired with strawberries. I serve it on a V-Day placemat or plate. This year I gave my son a transformer ($6.99) and a card. I REFUSE to give him candy as there's no good reason to give a 3 year old candy...I have no idea why parents insist on attaching it to V-Day cards! My husband and I exchange gifts once in a while, but not consistently every year...just depends on the budget.

We do cards and a nice meal together plus some extra treats. Last night we did chocolate fondue for dessert . . . with a 2 year old. It was a little messy but a lot of fun! When the kids are a little older and appreciate it more, I'll probably do a small gift to make it more special.

BTW, your husband is right--presents aren't necessary (when are they?!) but they sure do make it fun!!

I usually get the kids a small Valentine. It is nothing fancy or anything. This year I got them each a big heart that had candy on the back of it. Simple, thats all. Last year I made them Valentine cards.

When I was growing up, my parents usually gave me a box of the SweetHearts candy. I then spent the next however long it took to eat the box making sentences or catch phrases directed to my parents. Now that I am older and married, we really don't do that much, but we do wish each other a Happy Valentines Day, and the older two get to make hearts and pass out as valentines.

I usually get my son something small...this year he got a little teddy bear that makes kissing noises and says I love you, and a small box with candy in it. The sweetest thing was when we went to the grocery store tonight he said that he wanted to get me something for valentine's day (mind you, he's 4!)...so he picked me out a unicorn and a candy bar. :) It was adorable. And he even paid for it himself (well with my money, but all on his own)...it was adorable. :)

My entire life, my mom has sent me (and my brothers) and annonomous valentines day card in the mail. We grew up and finally were able to match up the hand writing to know that it was her, but she denighs it to this day. I'm going to start this with my children too. However, you have to send them early to get back in the mail by valentines day.

I'm the mother of one child (a 6 mo. old), so I don't have much experience with V-day's of my own, yet. When I was growing up, we all had our own spot at the kitchen table, and when we woke up on Valentine's Day and Easter, we had some candy on our spot at the table. That was all we got, we didn't get clothes or presents, just a basket with some candy in it on Easter, and a V-Day card with some candy on V-Day. There's no reason to go broke on every holiday. Christmas is enough! If you start off this way, they will never know any different.
This year, I just got a small stuffed teddy bear for my daughter for Valentine's Day - no candy for her yet, obviously.

I get my daughter gets a present, candy and a card...

This year I got her a Hannah Montana outfit for spring/summer, box of chocolates, gummies, and a cute card. It made her day and got some excitement with this cold weather and gloomey days I like Valentines day if I can perk people up and show them I like or love them.

I know a little boy in my daughter's first grade class brought the teacher a dozen roses today!

I think it's whatever your comfortable with and it's about the thought and showing your love more than how much you spend. My daughter had been begging for her Hannah Montana outfit for weeks and it's a practical gift she will get use out of soon.

we (my husband & I) alos disagreed upon giving our kids presents on v day but i wanted them to know as well how much they are loved so i buy them a movie and a small box of chocolates (.99) or their fav candy bar, gum, popcorn etc... and a cheap .99 cent card i keep each kid around $15 - $20 depending on the age and movie i try and buy the clearance movie or the 2 for $10 at walmart this year i lucked out and bought my daughters on sale at target for $4.49 plus .99 box of chocolates and left over last years v-day card she passed out to her class because their is always a couple left over and i put it in a brown paper lunch bag i decorated with stickers and markers i only spent $5.48 and i found her bag and card from last year in her desk when we were cleaning her room and she had to keep it. It was very cute i loved it and she is 9 almost 10.
