Ok...today I found out thatI make too much money for my son to go to Head Start. He will be 4 in October so he will not be able to go to school for another 2 years but I would like to have him in something structured. Does anyone that has a perschool age child that lives in Eagan have any recommendations? I am working on a tight budget but might be able to work with something a couple days a week. I am upset that I just found this out and now 2 weeks before schools start, get to start looking. I have seen some churches offering preschool? I know daycare centers advertise but not really interested in something that is more of a daycare. He goes to daycare and I want something more structured that a daycare setting. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Most communities offer an ECFE preschool program through the school district. It is very inexpensive and works on a sliding scale/ability to pay. My son attended the Roseville program last year and it was very good quality.

Beth, sorry you are so bitter, but please don't run around perpetuating the myth that most non-English speakers are illegal immigrants. Chances are the Headstart participants are NOT illegal since they have to provide documentation in order to participate. Half of my son's ECFE class had mothers who did not speak English and they were all here legally!

HI S., I am the mother of a 3 year old. We have always attended ECFE classes in our district and I have heard great things about the preschool "Small Wonders" which is connected. I am not sure if you are in district 194 but there are programs in every school district. Anyways, the classes are small and the prices seem a lot more reasonable than some of the private options I looked into. You can look for info on the web at the district website under community ed.. Also I think there is an ECFE open house on the 28th. I am sure you can find out more if you give them a call. Good luck on your search.

I too was denied headstart and am still bitter about it to this day. I was unemployed living solely off of childsupport and was denied. They went by the year before's income.

I called ISD 191 Eagan-Burnsville-Savage and got a scholarship for my daughter to attend Tiny Tots Preschool.ThankGod or my daughter would not have had preschool.

Coincidentally tiny tots and headstart were in the same building. So I saw both programs, 98% of the kids in headstart were a minority, didn't look as if English was a 1st language at home. It's one more thing I've been denied in this country because of reverse racism. I'm really bitter about this sorry I just saw headstart they had a better program, provided transportation, and had a meal served each day. And headstart does look at income as well as race. Not fair that illegal immigrants can take advantage of such a great program that we Americans should have first pick at.

Hi S. -

We used a church preschool for our daughter last year. It was a really great program, but we did have to pay for it. Another option you could check out is an ECFE class through your local community education. My husband did one of those classes with her too, and they both liked it. It was only one day a week, but it gave them both a little bit of a social outlet, as well as teaching them both a little bit. :-)
