Prenatal Vitamins - Lebanon,CT

I am 9 weeks pregnant with my second child. I have horrible morning sickness which I also had with my daughter, when I was pregnant the first time I took my prenatal vitamin at lunchtime when most of the sickness had passed. With this pregnancy I have tried taking my vitamin at many different times during the day, but even if I feel ok when I take it, within 1/2 hour I feel awful again, very nauseated and lightheaded. My question is, has anyone else experienced this? Could it be the brand of vitamin? I do have an appointment on Friday so I will mention it to my OBGYN, but wanted to see if any other moms have had this problem.

What can I do next?

I have heard that Rainbow Light (might be spelled Lite) prenatals are the best if you feel sick. Content wise I am pretty sure most prenatals are comparable, but the way each brand is made can have an effect on how your stomach takes it. Good luck!

Hi H.T! My OB recommended that I stop taking my prenatals all together when I had morning sickness. Ask your doctor about that option. You can resume prenatal use after the morning sickness has passed.
Congrats on your pregnancy!

Shaklee sells great vitamins that won't make you feel sick. Take them with food. They are 100% natural. Most vitamins are synthetic and harder to digest. They are not as effective either. I had 4 pregnancies and had good luck with nausea taking protein shakes and their vitamins. Or buy whey protein at whole foods and make a shake with fresh or frozen fruit in it. Improtant too: Omega 3 oils...get as much as you can. Canola oil, almonds, almond milk, wild salmon, etc. It's good for your baby's brain. So much ADD with kids today. e-mail me if you don't have a shaklee source at ____@____.com Luck!

I couldn't tolerate prenatal vitamins either. My OB said I could try Flintstones vitamins and if that didn't work I could try the kids gummy bears vitamins. For my second pregnancy I was on the gummy bears.

Hi there, I was very sick with my 2 children and could not keep anything down for 16 weeks. My doctor prescribed just the folic acid. It was such a small pill and I had no trouble keeping it down. I could not keep anything down including water. Good luck and I hope you feel better.

Most vitamins sold in the average pharmacy (Walmart, Target, CVS, ...) are SYNTHETIC, i.e. man-made. I highly recommend Rainbow Light Prenatal One. I took it all through pregnancy and had no morning sickness, or afternoon, or evening for that matter. It is plant based, not synthetic, there are real vitamins in there. It helped me immensely with my anemia as well. It is a little more expensive, but totally worth it, and not as expensive as the organic brands out there.

With my first pregnancy, I was VERY sick and even the thought of taking my prenatals made me sick. My OB let me take two children's Flintstone vitamins and it was so much easier. I delivered a very health 7 lb 11 oz boy on Flintstones. This pregnancy I started off with the Flintstones and eventually moved to a gummy vitamin bc I couldn't stomach any others. See what your OB will let you take. Good luck!
