Prenatal Vitamin
What advise would you have on taking the right prenatal vitamin? So, many out there and I want to pick the right one for me. Any thoughts?

I love the Nature Made multi-vitamin prenatals. I take them even when I’m not pregnant as a generally good multi-vitamin. I get them at Costco. The price is great (they often have them on coupon) and my OBGYN likes them too. As long as the vitamin you're looking at has the minimum amounts of nutrients recommended for someone who's pregnant or trying to get pregnant, anything should be fine. I would also personally recommend taking them at night once you get pregnant. I found that any type of prenatals I tried made me feel sick during the day if I took them in the morning and I didn't need anything else to make my "all day" sickness worse!

I would recommend the Isotonix Prenatal Vitamin. It comes in a powder and you mix it with a small amount of water and take it on an empty stomach. It is much easier than swallowing those horse pills and your body absorbs over 95% of the vitamins, unlike the over-the-counter vitamins that are only about 30% absorbed (if that!). This is a great product for anyone who wants to absorb a better quality vitamin, has trouble swallowing pills, or doesn't tolerate a regular vitamin. Also,
if you have any nausea, a great supplement is the Advanced B complex, which also comes in an Isotonix form. Don't forget taking a good Omega 3 supplement as well, to support the baby's brain and neurological development. Also consider a good calcium supplement with vit D for bone development (also an Isotonix product). Calcium may help control blood pressure during pregnancy too.
I ordered mine on www.drfry.nutrametrix.com. Go to "products" - "Women's Health." The vitamin B is under "General Health." The Omega 3's are under "Heart Health." Calcium Plus (with vitamin D) is under "Bone and Joint Health."

I highly suggest New Chapter's Organic prenatal. Very easy on the stomach. :D
Best to get it online rather than in stores, though. It's about half the cost. Vitaglo.com had it in stock.

There is some great advice in the responses. Way to go ladies on your research.
I am a consultant with nutraMetrix. We endorse a prenatal with our wellness program in physician's offices. The product is an isotonic delivery system meaning it is the same osmotic pressure as your blood, and therefore, you drink it, only about 2oz. The benefit is that the product is absorbed within 5 minutes! Stomach acid is not needed to break down "a pill" causing half of the nutrients to be destroyed. Roughly 95% is bioavailable to the cells for use! Pills generally only offer 30-50% absorption, some even much worse. The isotonic delivery system not only gives you your moneys worth, but the milligrams are available to do their job and not destroyed.
In addition, many mothers love the fact that you can drink it. Just as many have said on here, some women have a very difficult time swallowing pills when they are pregnant. You drink this prenatal on an empty stomach, usually in the morning. And! It really tastes great! Let me know if you would like additional info. I have clinicals on the delivery system and the effectiveness. It really is the best product out there!
We also have a phenomenal fish oil. Only 2 pills to reach the recommended dosage. Made of Peruvian sardines and processed in Canada. Canada's standards of manufacturing are much more stringent than the US. The company has been recognized all over, including Time Magazine, for their commitment to perfection. I say perfection because they have earned the right to claim the product mercury free through their rigorous outside testing. Mercury is a very serious toxin and a very large concern within the Autism debate.
Please, please! You get what you pay for. Dyes, binders and preservatives have NO value to your baby. Let's be honest, Walmart sells all types of quality products, right?! Not all supplements are created equal. I can supply real science if you want to go that far.
Sorry to get long winded. Just have lots of good info to share. Let me know how I can help:)

I also took the "Rainbow Light Once a Day". You can buy it at Sprouts. It's all natural. I think it's even vegan safe. So many prenatals require you to take several (as many as 8) pills each day. This one was great, because you only had to take one.

More then which vitamin, I am sending on when to take it, in case you find difficulties with that. I used to take mine first thing in the morning and found that it caused me morning "nausea" anyway. When I started taking it in the evening, it was better. I guess it had something to do with having had food before.
Just in case that helps....

Don't buy on price or the fact that it's only one tablet a day. The reason certain manufacturers recommend you take more than one tablet daily is they can't fit enough ingredient into one tablet or capsule to get the optimal levels needed for good health. I like to know my vitamins are guaranteed to make me feel the difference. I take a brand that does just that. Where price is a consideration my brand falls right into that bracket as well. Another thing to think about in the supplement line is are you taking your Omega 3's?

Prenatal Omega-3 provides fatty acids from fish oil to help support the healthy cognitive development of prenatal or nursing babies. Omega-3s also provide nutritional components for a baby’s developing brain and eyes. Since a mother’s body does not create these nutrients on its own, they are obtained through diet or supplementation. The brand I recommend provides the research recommended dose of DHA and EPA for prenatal cognitive health.
