I remember using Simply Saline spray for nasal congestion. All it is, is a saline spray to help clear things out, no drugs involved. Hot tea is always nice. I liked Sleepy Time chamomile tea was nice, but it may make you want to sleep, hence the name.

When I was pregnant, my sinuses were out of control. I used to put a dab of vicks vapor rub on my upper lip, directly beneath my nose, to help clear out the congestion.

You've gotten a lot of great responses. I'm going to have to try SH's garlic elixer someday. Maybe with a handful of parsely as well to help cut down on the smell after I have eaten it. ;oD

Gargle several times a day with warm salt water.

Use a Neti Pot

Smash or chop up a clove of raw garlic and down it with juice. 2-3 times a day. Garlic, is a natural germicide/antibiotic, and will work systemically.

Hi A.,

I agree with those who've suggested the Sinus Rinse (NeilMed makes it) -- it's a squeeze bottle, and much easier to use than a neti pot. The Breathe Right strips can help some, but I would recommend the brand-name over generic (they stick better), and make sure that you get the right size for your nose. Vick's Vapor Rub under the nose can help, too, and if your nasal passages are dry, you can put some saline gel inside your nostrils (like Ayr Gel). Using a humidifier is a good idea, too, and if you're having trouble sleeping, you can put a few drops of lavender essential oil (to relax) and/or eucalyptus oil (helps w/ congestion) on your pillowcase.

I'm also pregnant (36.5 weeks) and am getting over one of the worst colds of my life. I asked around for suggestions, and one friend suggested a garlic poultice on the foot. I thought this was strange, but decided to try it:

Mince 5 cloves of garlic, put in a bowl/container with olive oil to cover. Allow to sit for several hours. Before you go to bed, strain off the garlic, and rub the oil on your feet (I used gloves so my hands wouldn't smell). Put on old socks and leave them on till morning.

Another thing you can try is tomato "tea" -- 2 c. tomato juice, 2 T. lemon juice, 2-3 cloves minced garlic and as much hot sauce as you can stand. Bring to a boil, then pour into a mug and drink up.

If you don't like tomato, you can try a mixture of lemon, ginger, honey, and cayenne pepper.

Best of luck and feel better!
R.

I agree with the Neti pot, fluids and Vicks. Also, eat an orange daily or at least make sure you're getting plenty of vitamin C.

I would suggest a nasal rinse vs. the netti pot - same concept, just easier. Also keep warm mist humidifier in your room at night while you sleep. Tons of clear fluids and plenty of rest. I never had a sinus infection in my life then got one (both times) when I was pregnant. LOVE the sinus rinse. Can get them at Target, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart etc. Hope you feel better soon.

Netipot! It's a saline flush for your nose. And gargle with lukewarm salt water. Feel better!

My Neti Pot has been so awesome during pregnancy! I use it 2-3 times a day as directed, and it really helps me breathe better. A vaporizer right by your bed will help, and I also eat an orange every morning for the Vitamin C. Good luck!

Spoonful of honey for cough or Pectin only cough drops (Luden's); Sinu-Rinse sinus rinse by Neilmed (better than a nettie pot); and tylenol if you end up with a fever because your baby cannot sweat so you need to keep your temp down or risk birth defects/issues. I had the flu when prego 2 times (once with baby #2 and once with baby #3). Sleep in a more upright position to keep the drainage from pooling in your throat/head (2 pillows). Use a HOT wet washcloth over your face and inhale/exhale for a few minutes at the end of your shower. Gargle with salt water if you end up with a sore throat. That's about all I have :) Best wishes!

Honey for a sore throat, green or black tea with lemon, hot fluids, steamy showers, lotsa rest, chicken soup, be faithful in taking your prenatals, flush your sinuses if needed with nasal saline. These are things I did although I wasn't so strict on myself with meds. Tylenol was thrown in on occasion. Hope you get well fast.

get a netti pot if you are congested, no medication and it can really help clear you up. Also if you have congestion due to swelling and not mucus, breathe right strips can help. Other than that, rest and lots and lots of fluids.
