Pregnant and Sick - Albany,CA
Ok in advance I am not feeling good and mostly just whining here. Pregnant and sick = no decent medicine for me. It started out as simply sinuses and I am taking Claritin. Plain Claritin as Claritin D is off limits. I was also using my Nedi Pot with no problems. Now 3 days later I am miserable. My ears now hurt so no more Nedi Pot, sinus issues not improved and my throat hurts from sleeping with my mouth open/snoring because I can't breath.
I see the OB for my first appointment on Tuesdsay, but how do I suffer it out until then? Tried gargling salt water and I can't see a difference and have added Tylenol to my medicine because of the sore throat. Anything else?
I will call the doctor's office on Monday and see if they can get me in a day earlier. Thanks for listening to me whine...l
So What Happened?™
Thanks guys I moved the humidifier to our room last night, it was currently not being used in the living room. We also have them going in both kids rooms. I did leave out that I was drinking lemon tea (but currently out of honey). I go to the doctor on Tuesday, but hoping they can squeeze me in on Monday. If I need an antibiotic then I want it ASAP as my oldest is having surgery on Thursday and if we need to postpone then I would like to not leave that until the last minute. I am drinking fluids, mostly tea and as much water as I can tolerate. I know that the last thing I need right now is to get dehydrated.
The culprit is an ear infection. I as starting to feel better already with just a couple doses of amoxicillan in me. I should be feeling almost normal in time for my sons surgery.

Hi,
I hope you feel better soon! I suggest some tea with lemon and honey several times a day. Take a few spoonfuls of honey before you go to bed and you will sleep better and it will help the sore throat---safe and natural.

I'm sorry you're sick but I applaud your efforts to be cautious. Would the book "what to expect when you're expecting" offer any "safe" solutions?

I used hot tea to help with the throat (one with mint or honey)...

Sudafed is safe during pregnancy. The kind that they keep behind the counter in the pharmacy now.
Even though my doctor said it was safe, I only took half doses. It's the only thing that kept me sane when I was sick and pregnant.
Keep in mind too that some women have sinus problems during pregnancy and you may not really be sick. I've been having that issue too. I only used the sudafed when I knew I had caught the cold that my husband had.

Ugh, I'm sorry! I got a horrible sinus infection last year when I was pregnant and I was miserable. Couldn't take any sort of decongestant! I know steam always helps me, a nice hot shower. Only temporary, but it helps! Hang in there :)

What about a humidifier? Vicks?

I don't know how far along you are, but for me with my last two pregnancies right at the 13/14 week mark I was hit with a horrible sinus infection. It hurt so bad my teeth were aching and I couldn't open my eyes. I know how miserable you are.
Third the humidifier--I'm still using mine and my sinus infection is gone, but I noticed my sinuses were still clogging up at night. Absolutely works wonders.
With my 2nd pregnancy I came down with the sinus infection while on a trip in Hawaii--talk about depressing. So I useed Tylenol to ease the pain, and at night I also took Benadryl (its a class B during pregnancy where sudafed was a C) which helped me sleep and eased the sinus pressure so I could breath easier--didn't have a humidifier in Hawaii. I think by the 5th day I was feeling 10 x better.
Hot tea, lemon and honey work for the sore throat, kind of, too. That and the fruit based throat lozengers work wonders too. Hope you feel better soon!
