Pregnant and Prescribed Fioricet

Has anyone else been prescribed Fioricet for migraines/headaches while pregnant? I'm normally not skiddish about prescription - but while PG it's a different story. I've been getting terrible migraines. I'm in my 2nd trimester and my doc said it wouldn't hurt the baby. Has anyone else taken it while PG?

What can I do next?

I've never experienced this and I'm sorry you are in such pain. My only suggestion is perhaps a chiropractor can help? Or a pain relief massage therapist? I know of an excellent massage therapist: Kathy Bartek ###-###-####.

I also had migraines before and during my pregnancy. I also have very high tolerance to pain meds and the amount I would have had to take to be effective was not safe for the baby. With approval from my OB...I drank half of a can of a monster energy drink along with tylenol. the extra caffeine does something with the blood vessels in the brain to help the migraine. Of course the whole can would have been too much for the baby. He said as long as it wasn't every day it wouldn't be a problem. There was also some added vitamins in the drink. Talk to you OB about different options if your nervous about the medication. When I'm not pregnant I drink the whole can and take excedrin migraine. Another thing to look for sometimes before a.migraine starts you may see bright lights or halos. I sometimes see these before the pain starts...I start the routine before the headache begins and sometimes I can prevent the debilitating effects. I hope you fond something safe and effective for you.

I too had increased migraines during pregnancy and my doc perscribed me Esgic (same thing as Fioricet). It is completely safe for baby and its so much better then trying to suffer through those headaches! I just had my baby 3 months ago and perfectly healthy :)
My headaches subsided in the third trimester then returned again post partum. So don't worry, get some relief and take the Fioricet :)

I had migraines my 2nd trimester and all I could do was take benadryl and go to bed. It lasted a few weeks and then they were gone........not sure that will help you but that is what I did. Hopefully yours will not last long.

I had migraines for 20 years and would not take meds for fear of side effects, I found Nutritional Supplements that has made a huge difference, I have been pain free for the last 11 years. I know pregnant women take it as their prenatal vitamin and have a health baby. I will be very happy to share with you and answer any question you may have.

I pray the migraine goes away!

Oh my I had THE WORST migraines the 1st trimester of my pregnancy and was prescribed Fioricet and when that didn't work they gave me other medications that didn't work. It was totally hormonal and nothing would make it go away or ease it. Time was the only thing that helped.

I wish you the best of luck.

yes, i took it for migraines while pg, and i am married to a pharmacist - you've gotta weigh your benefit/risk aspects, mine were completely debilitating, causing me to lose weight(i am very small to begin with), and i had two other children to care for. good luck!

I took it, but I found it didn't help that much (sorry). What really did help a lot was cutting dairy and chocolate out of my diet. Post-pregnancy I've gone back to dairy, but not chocolate, and my migraines are much better. Sorry, it totally stinks that there's really not much you can take.

I am also married to a pharmacist and he agrees to weigh your benefits/risks. He says if you're taking it every day you should talk to your doctor about a different option.
