Pregnant and No Sac/heart Beat to Be Found
Hi Mom's,
I am absolutely petrified and besides myself and after getting home from a doc appt today, I needed to write just to see if I could more assurances from y'all.
I had what I thought was my 8 week check today. That is, 8 weeks from the first day of my last period (April 26th); and during such they did a vaginal sonogram and the sac could not be found/nor a heartbeat. The nurse said I had a thick endometrial lining (I think is what she referred to it as) that might have prevented her from seeing anything futher. She suspected perhaps, after the fact that she might have seens a small sac; but was not sure completely. So, the doc ordered blood test to be drawn to test my progrestorne, and HCG levels? Has anyone has this happen to them before. Could I on the verge of an etopic pregnancy and not know it (I am having no pain?); could I be so early from the actual date of conception therefore nothing can be seen? or could I be facing a miscarriage? This is so scarry and I am just looking for possible words of advice you may have if any of you have been faced with a similar situation, please write me back!!! Please!!!

I wouldn't be concerned. I remember when I went in for 12 weeks and they were looking for the heartbeat... the doctor told me it might still be too early. So my guess is that it's probably not uncommon to not be able to find one at 8 weeks. Just wait until the blood test comes back, and the doctor will be able to give you more information. Everything is probably just fine!

Its possible that it was just too early to see anything. The 8 week mark is a bit early in my opinion for an US. Hopefully your blood tests will provide positive results. I will be thinking of you. Good luck.

The EXACT same thing happened to me with my daughter!!! It was absolutely devastating since I had just been through 2 miscarriages...the dr told me to wait 2 weeks and come back for a repeat vag ultrasound...we came back and there she was!!!! Out of the 4 pregnancies I successfully carried...she was the healthiest one of all!!! Keep your chin up and please keep us posted....

Well, I don't want to alarm you. But I had the same and I miscarried... The doctor can tell you more after the bloodwork comes back.
I wish with all my heart you and the baby will be fine.
Love, I.

We had to go to a fertility doctor to get pregnant with our first son. They had a very strict policy of NO sonograms for the heartbeat before 7 weeks for just this reason. I started spotting with my son at 6 weeks, but I had to wait until 7 weeks to get a sono (longest week of my life!!)
I honestly can't tell you if this is the case with you, but not seeing the h/b at 6 weeks must happen enough for them to have a policy like that!!
I'll keep you in my prayers!!

Well, I really don't want to alarm you. My doctor also thought that I might be having an ectopic pregnancy, b/c she couldn't see anything either with a vaginal sonogram at what we thought was our 8 week visit. I did the blood work like you did and came back in a week and we discovered that I was only six weeks pregnant, (according to measurements) but at that sixth week visit we were able to hear a heartbeat. On the picture we were able to see the yolk sac and the baby. Maybe like me, you are just earlier than you thought you were? Good Luck with everything...

K.,
I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this. It could be that your dates are wrong and you are not as far along as what you think. I hope this is the case. I have had 2 miscarriages so I have been down this road before. By 6 weeks they should def be able to see a sac and a beating heart. Hopefully everything is okay.

The same happened to me w/my oldest son. I was in HORRIBLE PAIN when I went to the ER and they ran a preg test and it came back positive but they could not find the fetus, There was a sac but no fetus so they admitted me to monitor me. I was FREAKING out Pretty Bad.
The next morning they did another sonogram and they saw the sac and fetus right where it was suppose to be and I delivered a perfectly healthy baby boy 7 lbs 14 oz and 19 1/2 inches.
