Pregnant After Tubal? *** Another Thing(see Bottom!)
I am a 43 year old with 6 children. I had a tubal in 1995 after my last child and I have NEVER not been perfect on my period. Comes like a clock every 27 days! I am 2 1/2 weeks late and my breasts are very sensitive and "Fuller" I dont know if this could be premenopausal or pregnant. I did take an at home test and it was negative. I "feel" as though I could be pregnant but is it in my head? I have a doctors appt next week. I sure dont want them to think I am crazy but I need to know what is going on. Anyone have a similar experience? How likely is it to be pregnant???
** I believe they were cut and tied, Possibly cauterized. I was 28 when I had it done, and another thing, I took an at home test twice, both came up "not pregnant". Yet I feel wierd, even felt sick today. I have the 6 kids with my previous husband and I am remarried(he has no kids) If I was pregnant I would be just fine with that! If it is meant to be than it will be :-) I just think maybe I want it so I am tricking myself, pregnancy tests do not lie right?? My children are 23,21,20,19 17 and 14. No more stress than usual, actually stress pretty low. No change in diet, or routine. THANKS to all of you who have answered so far , I am glad I have found this site! I will post Tuesday evening(might be late have a kids softball game) :-)

So What Happened?™
Here is an update< today I started feeling more like a period was coming, sure enough it came. Very heavy and full of clots(sorry if too much info) Obviously I was not pregnant, so although I would have accepted it and been happy in a way I am relieved too, as my youngest will be a freshman in the fall. Thank You for all of you help, and even though I am not going to the doctor on tuesday, I am scheduling the appointment for later in the month to get all the blood work done, to find out what casued me to be 3 weeks late.

Please don't feel that he will think that you're crazy. There is no way of knowing if you're pregnant or premenopausal. Forty-three is not too early for perimenopause.
Actually, do you mean a tubal ligation or a tubal pregnancy? Not that would change my answer except that if it's a tubal ligation I would suspect perimenopause first.

a family friend had a tubal in late 80s and has a 22 year old (her other son is 34). Seems that her tubes somehow found their way back to eachother and re-connected.

Ovarian cysts can mock pregnacy in how you feel. Premenapause and stress can also, so can Endometriosis. Not that any of those things are good but I had my tubes cut tied and burned after my last one and I will be the first to agree that NOT PREGNANT!!! is still the only thing I want to hear!

I reversed my tubal ligation and had two more kids. Then after 6 years and 39 years old, I missed my cycle. I thought that I must be premenopausal. But no, I'm sitting here nursing my 9 week old baby.... I was pregnant. =) There were two posters (I think) who asked the same question about possibly being pregnant after having their tubes tied. They ended up being pregnant. No one will think you're crazy. You need to know what's going on. Good luck to you! =)

You could be and you would not be crazy. I know of women (friends/family of co-workers) who have gotten pregnant after a tubal. After about 10 years the failure rate increases to something like 1.6% (you can look that up easily) and it is never 100% to begin with. I would be surprised if you were going through menopause at 43 years old. So, I would say based on your information pregnancy would be my first thought, so don't feel weird asking them. :)

Not to scare you -but it happens. My doctor told me that she would happily do a tubal, and that they usually worked just fine, but there was a failure rate that was higher than people realized (the tubes grow back together). You could be peri-menopausal though, so call your doctor to alleviate any stress!

I have a friend who has had two pregnancies after a successful tubal. After the first, they verified that everything was fine and it was a 'once in a million' kind of thing. Well her body must have learned how to jump the gap or God was determined that she should have 6 kids, so she had another. They are both healthy normal boys. (After that her husband had a vasectomy!)
Two years ago, I thought I was going through perimenopause (at 44) and ended up being pregnant! I am so thrilled about my little girl, but didn't realize I was pregnant until I felt her kick. (It was still early in the pregnancy, I was two months along.)

I am officially perimenoposal at 42, and your symptoms could be that. I used to be like clockwork, but a year or so ago things started changing. Once I went 100 days without a period, after going 30, 40, 50 without. Now I'm back on schedule, but my breasts often feel full for two weeks before the period. I had a test that showed I am heading toward menopause, even though I (and you)--we're still young! Really irritating and hard to judge what's happening. I hope you're nice and healthy, either way.

It depends what type of tubal you had. If you tied them, you probably still could get pregnant but if you 'burnt' them then no. Your home pregnancy test could be wrong. I don't see why you have to get an appt for a pregnancy test. You should go to your clinic and get a pregnancy test. I can just imagine how you must feel. 43 with 6 children isn't easy. But if you're pregnant, It was meant to be, it's God's will and you should accept baby as a gift from Heaven. I'm 46 and a half with 19 month old twins! I also have a 21 yr old daughter whos almost done with College and a 17 yr old son who'll be a Senior in HS this August. Although the twins were planned, it was extremely overwhelming for us. We all love them to death! Good luck to you and let us know what happened ok?
