My friend thinks she might be pregnant. She has taken 2 tests they have both turned up positive but she started her cycle on time as usual She has felt nauseous and is light headed at times.. Has anyone else experienced this? What should she do now?

What can I do next?

Tell her to go see the doctor. Those pregnancy test are extremely reliable. So, if they were positive, but she is bleeding as normal, she needs to see the doctor.

Hi L., (from a local neighbor who just moved to Dillsburg, PA in July 2007)

Your friend is definitely pregnant. If the stick shows positive, then it's confirmed. Through family experience and my own, there are 2 explanations for her cycle.
(1) She may be having a miscarriage (this happened to me right around my period)
(2) Some women get their period during pregnancy. This is not common, but it does happen. (Example: My grandmother got her period for 4 months during her pregnancy and she had a very healthy baby.)

I would suggest that she call her obgyn. They will probably want to see her right away. They will be able to tell if she is having a miscarriage through a transvaginal ultrasound. They will also be able to provide her blood type (if she doesn't already know it). If she has negative blood and she IS having a miscarriage, then she will need to get a Rhogam shot to assure that her blood does not become desensitized and potentially miscarry another pregnancy.

Hope this helps and don't hesitate to contact me if you need more info. I just went through this situation myself 2 months ago, but am thankfully pregnant again (9 weeks tomorrow).

Hi L.,

Your friend should definitely make a doctors appointment. I too had my period during some time when I was pregnant with my son. So I no longer depend on the "no period" myth. Hope this helps. Take care and God Bless!!!

I would have her call her GYNO to explain what is going on with her. A blood test would give her a more accurate picture and doc may have other tests to find out if there is somehting going on or not.
