Pregnancy Worries

I went to my OB last Friday and I am about 5 weeks pregnant. The ultrasound only showed a gestational sac at this point and she told me to come back in 3 weeks and by then we should be able to see a heartbeat. She also mentioned that she might do a blood test on me. I don't remember having a blood test done for my first pregnancy. So now I am wondering if she saw something that was worrisome on the ultrasound that she didn't want to tell me.

Also with my first pregnancy by now, I already had all the classic pregnancy symptoms. As of now, I don't feel anything and don't feel that pregnant at all. My breasts are the same size and they don't feel tender at all. I know alot of women by now their breasts are tender and a bit bigger. I know every pregnancy is different but shouldn't I have enough pregnancy hormones in my body by now to cause some physical changes in my body?

What can I do next?

The blood test is definitely normal. They could hear the heartbeat at my first appointment (I was 9 weeks along), and they still did the blood test. Congratulations!

If they are saying you are 5 weeks it really means you are about 3 weeks along so that's not too far. With my first I had zero pregnancy symptoms in the very early days-zero. With my second I had symptoms earlier on. Every baby and every pregnancy is different.

Most docs won't even see patients are early as yours did and i do think it helps decrease all the worry. If the doc had had you wait till the 8-10 week mark you'd go in, see the little bambino on the ultrasound and leave happy. But because they had you come in so early you are having natural mommy worries.

And don't worry about the blood test. Things and ideas about caring for patients changes all the time.

My first pregnancy was ugghhh- i swear i was throwing up from conception! My boobs were sore - grew about 50 x's their size - I couldn't eat, could barely look at food. Couldn't stand different smells & was lucky if i made it to 6:30 before i was crashed out in bed. Then I was put on bedrest in October - hello I wasn't due until March & put on bedrest in Oct!!!!! My 2nd pregnancy - forget it - i swore the whole time i was having a boy - didn't throw up once - could eat anything - had so much energy. Don't even compare your pregnancies - you can't - they are soooo much different & guess what - my 2nd baby was another girl!

Try not to stress out over every little thing, that's what the first pregancy was for! Enjoy it and lighten up! Good luck!

Every pregnancy is different. With my first, I swear, I was sick from the moment of conception. Everything smelled to high heaven too. I started gaining weight right away, my boobs got HUGE and I ate everything in site! With my second I had nothing. No symptoms at all! I didn't test for a really long time because I thought there was no way I was pregnant. Until I threw up when I was making my daughter a hot dog! LOL!
5 weeks is very early to do an ultrasound. I'm wondering why they did one that early? Blood tests are perfectly normal. I had one done with my second daughter even after I had a positive urine test. They measure the level of the pregnancy hormone in your body. I'm not sure what else they use it for. They might have you do a follow up in a few days or a week just to make sure the levels are increasing.

Your second pregnancy is going to be different than your first. As for the blood test, my doctor had me take one with each pregnancy to check progesterone and hcG levels. It's completely normal. The doctor couldn't have really seen anything to make her worry...it's too early to see much anyway. As for the pregnancy symptoms, I noticed the same thing this time (I'm eight weeks along). Other than the fatigue, I didn't really notice any other symptoms. I kept waiting for the tender breasts, and they still haven't come. I read that if you breastfed the first time then you aren't as tender the next time. Only in the last week have I noticed a difference. They seem heavy and firmer than before, but I haven't experienced any tenderness.

Relax! Everything is fine!

The blood test my guess be a beta to see what your HCG levels are. Anything over 5 is your pregnant. Now that number can be all over the place to 5 to over 200. A higher number doesn't mean that your pregnancy is more viable.
I would guess another ultrasound is because just to make sure all is ok. It is very early to see a heartbeat. Try and not worry (I know its hard)

And each pregnacy is different. Mine were all over the place and I have 1 gilr and 2 boys.
Congrats

I had no sore or growing boobs with pregnancy #2 AND no nausea. My body reacted differently to having a boy than having a girl (DD was #1). I wouldn't worry about the blood test- they have become routine to do levels of hcg hormone testing. I went in at 6 weeks with DD, had an U/S and they saw just the fetal pole and no HB- had to go back at 8 to make sure it was OK...turned out I ovulated late so they dated me a few days different. It all worked out and she was born on her Due Date :) Congrats and Relax for now. No sense in worrying unless you have bleeding or horrible abdominal cramping.

Best wishes!

If you are 5 weeks along, you really only conceived @ 3 weeks ago, so it is super early! (only 1 week after missed period?) I would try not to worry. And yes, a blood test is completely normal. I, too, am quite surprised they gave you an ultrasound already with it being so early on. I can't believe you had all those symptoms by this time with your first, wow! Although, I am 7 weeks along with my 2nd, and boy there is sure a difference - I totally feel pregnant, whereas with the first it wasn't until 4 or 5 months along that I felt this way ;-) Just remember what everyone else has said, each pregnancy is different! Try to relax & enjoy it, it's still very early, and worrying will get you no where ;-) Congratulations!

One of my pregnancies was like this until 6 weeks on the dot then...I was so sick all day long...queasy all the time and miserable.

So try and relax and enjoy the calm before the storm.

Also, the fetal pole and heartbeat not usually visible until 6 weeks-ish. the blood test is just precautionary but honestly it won't tell you much about the pregnancy unless they do one that counts your hcg levels 2 days apart for a week or two.

Eat up this Thanksgiving before the thought of food makes you ill. HUGS!!

Please try not to worry too much. My first u/s for this pregnancy was at 5 weeks. All they saw was the gestational sac and there was no heartbeat. My dr wasn't concerned at all...he said that 5 weeks is many times just too early to pick up a HB. I went back 3 weeks later and saw that little heart beating like crazy!!! I also did not have any pregnancy symptoms at all! So again, try not to worry too much. I bet you will see a nice strong HB in a few weeks!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I don't think you should worry about it. I got blood tests done with both my pregnancies. Both my pregnancies were different in many ways, with my daughter I felt it right away, by 5 weeks I had all the symptoms but now with this pregnancy I didn't feel a thing until I was like 14 weeks! I never got any symptoms at all, no nausea, no changes in my appetite or changes in my breasts, nothing. I realized I was pregnant when I was almost 4 months! So I think all pregnancies are different, this might be an easier experience that the first one, maybe you won't have the symptoms until later on, but I wouldn't worry.
