Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility (www.tcoyf.com). I knew I was pregnant both times from taking my temperature. It also explains how to tell when you are about to ovulate. The book helped save a lot of money on ovulation predictor kits and pregnancy tests - both of which I used prior to the book - as well as the disappointment of a negative pregnancy test. Of course this won't help if you're looking for something to test right now.
Best of luck to you!

It doesn't matter what brand you use. If you are pregnant you will see a positive result. There are very few false negative results anymore. Dollar tree has them and they work just as well as the $24.00 ones you can buy at Walmart. Save some money and buy a couple dollar tree ones, you will probably be so excited and shocked when one comes out positive you will want to take another one, so have one ready!

The Dr told me that there are very few if any false positives because you can only get a positive reading if you are producing the pregnancy hormones.
False negatives are the ones that can be incorrect at times...in that case it doesn't matter what test u use because if u r pregnant it will be detected on any of the tests. I went to the dollar store & stocked up when we began trying. I was 29 (I just had my baby girl 5 months ago) & got pregnant on the first try-literally we made love twice in my cycle & the next month I was pregnant. I used the dollar store test-2 of them actually called the Dr. & asked if I should take one of the higher end tests to make sure & they said no if you are getting a positive read don't waste your money-it is accurate-it can't detect a yes w/out the hormones. So don't waste your $. When we went to our general pract. Dr because we wanted to make sure before we shared the news-they ended up giving me the same test there! Not sure if it was from the dollar store but it looked exactly the same! haha. So save some $ for the baby cause your gona need to invest there instead of the overpriced prego tests! Good luck! Just know it will happen when it should for your own life & have fun! cause once your prego, most women get to a point where sex is the last thing on their mind so give your man the love now! haha Oh yea & last thing make sure you are POSITIVE that you both want a baby- u say 'considering' starting a family-make sure you KNOW you both are ready & want it because your life will never be the same. Do what you both need & want to do for your own live's now-take that trip or that class-or that "I've always wanted to..." NOW cause when that little angel arrives it will be all about her for many years to come, if not until she is an adult!
Make sure you are ready to give all of yourself 24/7 to someone other than yourself because a babies will require your attention 24/7 especially in the beginning. Enjoy your sleep now! You will hear SO much advice but take it as a a head start of the new life-you will never really know what it's like until he/she is here. The first 2 months are the toughest but I would say it was the BEST, MOST CHALLENGING JOB i've ever had....

Hi,
Back in 2004, when I got pregnant with my first I remember researching this same topic. The answer (back then) was First Response Early (make sure it says "early" on the package). It was able to detect the lowest level of pregnancy hormone as compared to any other brand. I don't know if things have changed since then, however. It's been 4 years so maybe there is new technology out there that I don't know about.

My last pregnancy I got a positive (very faint, but a positive) with the Longs brand test. When I went to the doctor to confirm, they didn't even get a faint positive on theirs. They sent me to get blood work and called the next day telling me I was pregnant. My friend used the Walgreen brand. I've also heard that the dollar store ones are really good.
Honestly, I think they are all the same so if they are cheap, you can buy more and test more =O)
Best of luck!

I think they are all the same. I used the ones from the dollar store and both times I showed pregnant before I missed my period, but it was a very faint line. I tested at my doctors office a couple days later and it showed negative even though I was pregnant. I don't think price really matters- just buy the $1 ones.

I liked Clear blue easy digital because there was no faint line business.. it said pregnant or not pregnant and that was that!

Personally, in the past I've used the digital pregnancy tests just because I'm paranoid and like to make sure I get the right result! But, everyone is correct about one thing, false positives are rare, so, no matter what kind you get, make sure you have more than one, just so that you can resolve any doubts you have about your results.
