Pregnancy Tests - Willow Springs, IL
Has anyone had issues with a false home pregnancy test? I recently took an unexpired First Response test and it said I was not pregnant, yet I am a few days late. I am never late and we are actively trying. I have no other signs like my first pregnancy, but I realize every pregnancy can be different. I am anxious, yet know I should wait at least a week to do another test or call my doctor.
So What Happened?™
Thank you to everyone. However, our wish did not come true and the test results were accurate. I was 4 days late which is very unusual for me. We will try again next month - maybe an early Christmas gift!

My doctor told me you are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive on a home pregnancy test. I'd use a different brand and see.

I'd take another one in a day or 2, you may have just taken the test too early.
Even though most tests say it doesn't matter, maybe try to take it first thing in the morning.
Good Luck!!!

with my second child I was 17 weeks before a test would pick up on it. I ended up going to the hospital and getting a ultra sound don't to be sure. The doctors could tell me why but the test just didn't work. Even the blood test came back -.

Hi N.,
Had it happen to me. Took a test the day after I was due (and we were in Vegas). It was negative, and then I started spotting that day. I thought I was safe and had a couple drinks (2 in a 3 day time frame, lol). Well, the spotting stopped after one day and when we got home I took another pregnancy test. It was positive and the voice in the other room yelling right now is the result. :)
So, yea, it can happen. As someone else said though, NO false positives. Positive = pregnant.
Good luck!

Same here..my test with first reponse was -ve for three days at a stretch and then followed by spotting..i thought i am just dreaming abt preg. ut eventually yes it came =ve after I was 4 days overdue.
+ means pregnant
- can mean preg or not depending on the hormone level
Doctor is best judge.
All the luck@@

As the other posters said, a false negative is very possible. Believe it or not, the pregnancy tests sold at the dollar store are some of the most sensitive, they measure down to 25 units versus 100 on some of the expensive ones. Also, first morning urine is more concentrated so you are more likely to get a positive.
If you go to the doctors, they use the same urine pregnancy test you buy at the store, so request a "serum HCG." Just that basic test will tell you if you are pregnant. The previous poster mentioned the quantitative HCG which will give you the exact level of HCG in the blood but may be more expensive.
Good luck!

I have been pregnant four times and all times I had to have the doctor do a blood count, because all urine tests were negative. At first the doctor asked me are you sure and I knew my body and I was sure something was wrong. If you are un certain I would ask the doctor to do a HCG for pregancy. I think that is what they call it. Best Wishes.

the first time i was pg, First Response did not dectect it at all. that brand detects a hormone varient instead of actual HCG levels. i bought a million tests, including the digital that read "pregnant" and still no + from FR. i found the target brand that reads + or - to be great as well. try another test. it's worth $8 to know! let us know how it turns out.
