Pregnancy Test Question

SO I'm trying to conceive, anyone who has read my post in the last few months has found this out. :) So I'm about 5 days from my next period, would it be safe to assume if I test in a few days and the test doesn't say "pregnant" that I'm probably not pregnant? DO I really have to wait until after my missed period to check? Suspense is killing me... question is, has anyone taken a test before their missed period to later discover in a few more days that they really were pregnant?

What can I do next?

Same story with my first as A.M. Took the test - negative. Two weeks after missed period - positive.
I know how the anticipation can be too much to bear, but just wait:)

Wait. As hard as it is, wait.

Stop thinking about it. You are just going to stress yourself out.

Ask your OB/GYN if you can come in for a blood test...that will set your mind at ease.

GOOD LUCK!

I had regular periods, and my tests showed negative even a week after I missed my period even though I was pregnant...both times. It didn't show up as positive until 2 - 3 weeks after my missed period! I would wait until at least the day of your missed period....good luck!

With my first I took it the day before I was supposed to have my period and it was negative. Three days later, still no period. Pee'd on stick again and positive!

If you don't want to waste all your pee sticks I would suggest just waiting until you know for sure you missed your period. Not to mention the disappointment that comes with a false negative!

I think it depends on your hormone levels. I've tested 5 days out with a Wal-Mart brand test and got a positive the minute my pee hit the stick, this happened with both my pregnancies. However, I do know people that tested early, it said no, and they were pregnant. Do you have a dollar store near you? Go load up on tests, they are accurate. This way you can test everyday if you want and not be out a lot of money.

I was always irregular, ranging from 21-35 days, so I never tried it before my period had been missed. But if you're regular, I've been told that it is likely accurate if it comes up negative (because most HPT these days are very sensitive) but the possibility still exists that it may be a false negative. I'd save myself the heartache and wait until your period to check that (especially since you are specifically trying to conceive).

Some tests allow you to test early - I think I tested that early with my second - but it may still say no, even if you are. So you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. You could try, but you'll not guaranteed to get an accurate result.

are you charting with BBT?

The easiest way to tell EARLY if you are pregnant is accurate charting. If you are pregnant, you BBT will NOT drop (which USUALLY happens a couple days before you start your period).

I had to wake weeks to get a positive result. All early tests were negative.

Haha, well I just posted the same question in our TTC Clubhouse and Irene told me to be patient and wait.

So, I'm going to wait until Tuesday. Come on, wait with me. We can send impatient IMs over Facebook for the next couple of days to keep each other's minds off of it :)

I've never gotten reliable results on tests that early. I've been pregnant 4 times. And getting the negative results 3 days before, 2 days before, 1 day before, convinced me I wans't pregnant when in fact I was. So take the tests if you want to, especially if you got a whole bunch of them, but don't rely on them.

Ahh...all depends on when you ovulated. I would be getting myself a handful, or 2, of the dollar store tests (they are the most sensitive, and the cheapest) and start taking them now. I have gotten early results, about 4 days from my period. But, you may have to wait until a lot longer to make sure if you keep getting negatives. Good luck.

Oh, and peeonastick.com is a wealth of information if you want to obsess over this :) Not that I have or anything ;)

I've never had a positive test before my period was due, and testing early only increased my anxiety about it.

I'd wait until your period is 1 day late, and then test using your first urine of the day, which will have the highest possible concentration of HCG in it.
