Pregnancy Test Accuracy

Hi Mamas! I am not usually this impatient but I am dying to find out if I am pregnant. My period's due in a couple of days but I am sure I am pregnant. My husband and I had unprotected sex right around the time of ovulation and I am pretty fertile (happened in one shot...no pun intended, with my last baby). Anyway, I have taken 2 E.P.T. early detection pregnancy tests and both were positive! I want so bad for it to be true, but since I have not yet got (or missed...hope, hope) my period, I'm having a hard time fully grasping the situation. I know I should just wait to see if I get my period but I want to know if any other Moms have had a situation with testing early. Was it accurate? Did you have a false positive? Any advice anyone can give me so I don't go out of my mind for the next couple of days!
P.S. My cycle is very regular..every 29 days...that's how I know when to expect my period.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay, so just to be "sure", I took 2 more tests....both positive. I finally believe it...I am pregnant! I am sooo happy. I already love being a Mom to my almost 2 year old son, so I am definitely happy to welcome another little one into the world! Thank you to all the mamas that have offered their support! I appreciate you all!

My doctor has told me "there is very rarely a false positive"....only false negative. So congratulations!!!! Please send some of your "fertile" energy my way :)

I took a pregnancy test about 4 days before my missed period and it was positive. Took 3 test and all 3 positive. Then I missed my period, which helped me confirm and grasp that I really was pregnant. I know it is hard to believe. But my test were right. Good luck

I've heard that there are false negatives, but never a false positive, since the tests measure the levels of HCG in your blood, and HGC is only present when you're pregnant. Congrats! :)

The HPT's they have on the market today are much more sensitive than ones available in years past, and most of the ones available can now detect the pregnancy hormone several days before a period is due. I got positive HPT's 3 or 4 days before my period was due with my last 3 pregnancies. If you already got 2 positives, I'd say you're definitely pregnant. It's much more common to get a false negative than a false positive.

Congrats and good luck!

With both my children I tested positive early. It is usually a really faint line with the test that I took. As you progress through your pregnancy then the line will get darker. Congratulations - you are pregnant!

I hope its true! I am also very regular and tested with the EPT. In tested 5-6 days early and it came out positive. I took one test one morning and the next the next morning and both were positive. I also called my doc to test me via blood which is way more accurate then urine. Call and see if u can get in? I know its so exciting and sucks to wait...

False positives are EXTREMELY rare and almost never happen with two different tests. The only thing that could possibly make you get an early positive that turns negative is a blighted ovum or a pregnancy that does not succeed. Many people would never know that they had this happen since it occurs right before their expected period and they go on to have their period as normal. So I would say, congrats!!! You are most likely prego! I have tested early w/one out of three pregnancies and got an early positive - the other two took until the day I missed my period to show up positive. I am the pregnancy test queen tho and have probably taken over 100 tests in the last 5 years (ridiculous I know) and have never gotten a true false positive. So good luck to you - go to the store to get some prenatal vitamins mama!! :)

Congrats! you're PG! It will detect anything over a Beta score of about 35. (Beta is the messurment og hcG that Drs look at in your blood draw.) Anything over a beta of 5 is a (+) pg blood draw, but by 2wpo (2 Weeks past ovulation) they like to see it above 50.

Just to help you understand a bit, I have been going through fertility assistance and when I got pg in Feb, found out first week of March, my beta at 4w 3d (or 2w3d past Ov) my beta was 75. At 6w0d it was 4198.

Pretty much the only way to get a false (+) on multiple tests is for there to be a problem with you hormones, cuasing you to release hcG when in fact you're not. And condidering that those are VERY RARE (more common for a man with testicular cancer to trigger a "false (+)" on an HPT), count your blessings that you are a fertile Myrtle.
