Pregnancy Rash, Anyone Have This?

My cousin has developed what they call a "pregnancy rash".
Her dr. told her all she can do is rub benedryl over her rash but that does not seem to help her.
She has itched herself till she's bled.
Was curious if anyone else ever had this and if you found a product that worked to releive the itching??

What can I do next?

I had the same thing and absolutely nothing topical worked. Finally my obgyn prescribed a steroid pill that gave results immediately. I wasn't able to take this until late in my pregnancy.

Look into your diet, there are many cases of women who develop a food alergy during pregnancy just as women develop gestational diabeties, it might take a while to figure out what it is but it is well worth a try.

A friend of mine had it and her OB told her it was fine to take a strong Benedryl type med orally called Adarax which she did and her baby was born 4 wks early and was very lathargic. He had to have all kinds of tests looking for neurological problems. Everything was normal and he slowly got better within a couple of weeks. They determined it to be from the meds. I would strongly recommend she stick to using topical Benedryl and try using ice towels or packs over the effected area.

I had it, and calamine lotion got rid of the itch entirely. They make clear calamine now, so you don't have to look like you spilled pepto bismol on yourself.

I had the same thing when I was pregnant with my daughter. I developed it in my third trimester and was completely miserable. The only thing that would work for me was taking a bath in Oatmeal. I would use the packages that came from any drug store that would be used say if you had the chicken pox. I eventually had to be induced because my doctor said that I would not get rid of the rash until I had the baby. I hope this works for your cousin.

I never actually had a rash but I had incredibly dry skin in my last pregnancy and used a hydrocortisone cream and it helped a little.

Hi S.,

It's called PUP. I have terrible eczema since childhood and here is what I suggest. Eliminate using anything with frangrance. This definitely includes laundry soap and bath soap. Try Dreft or one of the green brands. The Dye Free ALL and others don't work in my opinion. Wash all clothes including towels bed linens in this. Try using a soap free wash like baby aquaphor in the shower. Take all showers in cool water (hot will only dry out the skin more). When stepping out of the shower apply a thick lather of Aquaphor ointment lotion allover while still damp. I would also reccomend taking Benedryl pills as they will help more than just the spray. My doctor said it was safe in pregnancy. I actualy took it at night so I could sleep and not itch. Try these tips and I hope your friend gets some relief!

I had that my last pregnancy. I think it is called PUPPS. I remember the benadryl. I am trying to think what did help. I think a eucalyptus spray is what I used.
I feel for her, because it drives you nuts!
