Pregnancy Gingivitis

I have pregnancy gingivitis. I know I need to go to the dentist but they are rather rough on my gums (when I am not pregnant, I am petrified of the dentist). The last time I went when I was pregnant they barely did anything so it was a waste of my time (because of the pregnancy gingivitis). This time is seems to be much worse though. I started using a mouthwash for mouth sores etc and it seems to be helping (AI hydrogen peroxide) but the bottle says only to use for 7 days. Can anyone reccomend a way to deal with this? Some days I swear my teeth are going to fall out!

What can I do next?

My gums bled soo much both times I was pregnant. It was crazy. And then after both pregnancies it magically stopped. Like another poster said - it was due to extra blood flow to my gums. None of my friends (that I asked) had this. Is this what you have? My dentist and dental hygenist both knew all about it. Gingivitis is something different - a true gum disease that you should definitely see the dentist about.

the crest mouth wash is really good and does not have alcohol, brush your teeth several times a day and FLOSS FLOSS FLOSS. yes it may hurt but its really the only way to get your gums better. rinse your mouth with salt water after eating and drinking sugary items. my dentist said to be agressive when he found a small spot on my gums and I was and it was gone in a weeks time. gl

You haven't been to the dentist yet, right? Maybe this isn't really gingivitis, but all that extra blood flow in your body. That's what it was for me.

My gums bled so much that I actually dreamed that my teeth were falling out! I was on bedrest, and called the dentist's office and told them my plight. They had me in, and they were very gentle with my gums. There was nothing they could do about it, but I finally stopped having those dreams.

I highly recommend that you go to the dentist. Ask for your dentist to call you personally and ask him or her to pair you with the most gentle hygenist in the office. That should help you with your fear. If you do have gingivitis, you really need to get in there.

Good luck!

My dentist told me that it is not "normal" for your gums to bleed, even when pregnant. It is more common, but not "normal". I recommend you go to the dentist. You should actually go more often during pregnancy for cleaning, but avoid xrays, etc.

I got pregnant when I was going to a periodontist for an implant and had issues with swelling gums and gagging when brushing. He told me to brush for as long as I could tolerate and if needed to wipe my teeth/gums with a washcloth a few times a day. And then he said to FLOSS, LOTS, as much as possible and use Listerine and it would keep my teeth and gums in as good a shape as possible with my issues.
