Pregnancy Clothes - Lees Summit,MO

We are thinking of having a baby. I have fixated on something very silly but would like to know what you've done. I am rather large to begin with which bothers me but I am trying to lose some weight before hand. Have lost about 30 so far but I'm still 5'7 and 225...so being large and pregnant is somewhat upsetting to me but if it happens, it happens.

My question is about clothes. If you're large in the first place where do you find stylish preg clothes? Do you buy sizes that you normally wear and they just fit a pregnant woman or is the sizing totally different for pregnancy?

I have large thighs that rub together so I ALWAYS have to wear bike shorts or in summer wear pantyhose like shorts underneath my dresses and skirts. Anyone else have that problem? Where did you find things to wear underneath dresses and skirts while pregnant? The catalog I get these liners from does not sell maternity liners.

Thanks moms

I just Googled "pregnancy clothes for plus sizes". Looks like Motherhood and JC Penny's has them online.

There is a whole page of listings.

Congratulations on loosing the wait and have a happy pregnancy!

You will find great maternity clothes at any size. Do not stress! It will be awhile before you need materninty clothes anyway. Yes, you buy your normal size.
Be selective and buy fewer, if price is an issue, but get things you really like.
I wouldn't wear any type of "slimmer" while you are pregnant.
I got some cute maternity clothes at Kohl's. And Macy's. Good luck!

Motherhood maternity has the cutest clothes I've found. They do have plus sizes as well. They say whatever size you are prior to being pregnant...like a large...then buy a large and it should fit nd grow with you as you grow a belly. Although...I was a medium and found that I liked buying the next size up best. While in the beginning they were super baggy...I'm at the end of my pregnancy and it's the most comfy.
I am sure motherhood probably sells something to go under your clothes so your thighs don't rub together. I guess you just have to go check it out. Good luck! :)

you might try the Motherhood store (usually in malls) I'm overweight, and had to go there to get maternity clothes last time, not sure what sizes they go up to, but I'm pretty sure they had at least 1x and 2x maternity clothes when I went last.

Sears sells a good variety of maternity clothes. I was a size 18 when I got pregnant and tended to wear lose fitting shirts anyway. I was able to wear most of these until I was about 7 months pregnant. I bought Lane Bryant shirts in a size a bit larger than mine and that worked great. The styles they have look similar to maternity clothes and fit more comfortably for the six months after I had my son. Pants were a bit of a challenge. Good news is that they tend to be more flattering to larger women just because of the nature of the cut. I found many of my pants at JC Penney. Bisou Bisou tended to fit the best. I also liked the ones that were soft all around instead of just on the tummy. Beyond that, the Motherhood Maternity tummy sleeve is also very nice. It allows you to wear your normal pants but unbutton them and put the sleeve over them. They come in plus sizes and allow you some flexibility. The last thing I did was buy a ton of clothes from my local thrift store. I picked sized that were bigger and once I was done with them, I just redonated them. Saved me a ton of money!

I was concerned about my weight before having my first child and my OB said that I was likely to gain about 30 pounds (every woman is different though - I only ended up gaining about 25) so I waited about 4 months to get pregnant and really worked on changing my eating habits and getting in better shape before getting pregnant and as one of my friends pointed out, just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you have to stop being healthy it is actually a good excuse to keep working at it.

I am very excited for you!

Stylish preg clothes? I haven't found much of those at any size, unless you are rich, tall, and skinny. Most of the clothes I have found, I have had to get online, and there are plenty of larger pregnant women, so I am sure that they have some in every size. If the bike shorts can sit under the belly, you may be able to get away with those, maybe a size or two up, and I have seen maternity pantyhose online. The sizing for the rest will depend on the manufacturer. Most websites tell you to pick up or pick your prepregnancy size, and you may need to go up throughout your pregnancy. You may want to check the online stores that have a return policy for local stores, like JCPenny, so that if it doesn't fit, you can return it locally and save shipping. I would suggest first going online to a store that you normally buy at and seeing if they have an online maternity section.
Old Navy
Gap
Kohls
JCPenny
Motherhood
Those are the only ones I can think of right now. Good luck and congratulations on the weight loss.

Congrats on the weight loss. That is so hard to do! I lost 25 pounds before I became pregnant with my first and was down to 200 (5'3") and then gained 25 pounds with the pregnancy. Only lost 5 pounds in between that pregnancy and this one. With this one, I've only gained 9 pounds and am due in 2 weeks! All of my weight came off my frame and went to my baby belly. My doctor says that I did a great job and was only supposed to gain 10 pounds with the pregnancy, anyway.

My point is that once you become pregnant (and have weight loss before conceiving helps you conceive easier), you may find yourself in my shoes and see the weight come off as you go through your pregnancy. Yes, I've eaten a lot healthier (similar to when I was losing weight before the first).

To answer you actual question...everyone else has a done a great job. Motherhood Maternity and JcPenny's has the best selection for plus size. But, not all Motherhood stores carry plus size, you need to look online for which stores do or order online.

Also, DO NOT buy the jeans that have the elastic panels that are to cover your whole belly, unless you try them on and walk around the store a bit. I bought 3 pair and each of them worked their way off my hips and took my underwear with it when I walked just a few steps. I looked and felt ridiculous walking into a store and constantly hiking up my pants (and I could never get my underwear to go back where it was supposed to until I went to the restroom).

Buy whatever size you normally wear, but in maternity. Motherhood does go up to 3X, but my guess with your height that you are a 1X to 2X.

Good luck with the conception and then the clothes shopping!

Congrats on losing the weight so far. I was heavier than you. I was 300 when we started trying - my Dr had me lose 40 lbs - so I was down to 260 and then I got pregnant! I gained about 24 lbs during the pregnancy. I found some really cute tops at Motherhood in the plus size section, as well as pants and cute jeans! They also had cute pullover and wrap dresses that you could wear leggins under. I would suggest that you buy leggings and regular tops in a size larger than normal. I also found cute ones and JC Penney. Since I had the baby 8 months ago - I am back to 260 and still losing (breastfeeding is a great weight loss tool!). Also - you can make your current jeans/pants work for awhile longer by wearing the bellyband - also sold at Motherhood.

Good luck to you on future weight loss and a future pregnancy!!!

To be honest with you, when you start your pregnancy overweight you arent supposed to gain that much weight. For a normal person the healthy weight gain is between 25 to 35 lbs, for overweight women =less, underweight=more. I had a friend who was overweight and during her pregnancy her total gain was only about 15 lbs, which the Dr. said was healthy because she just changed her eating habits to eat healthier for the baby. She was 9 months and didnt even look pregnant, everyone just thought she got a little heavier but surprise ! She was hiding the baby wonderfully. I am 5'11 and weighed about 160 before getting pregnant and I still had large thighs that rub together. I am still able to wear my shorts because I get the stretchy kind, with the elastic band that will just stretch out with my growing belly. I don't think it will be too hard to find/fit in your normal clothing.
