Pregnancy Brain Is TOTALLY a Thing!

Ok mamas, I'm back looking for some btdt's from you all...lol. I have to laugh or I might just cry!

I literally just had a five minute conversation with one of my employees, thinking she was someone else. In person, mind you. (As somewhat of an explanation, on top of being 2 1/2 weeks away from the end of a high-risk pregnancy, in the middle of home renovations, and sickness running through our house, my work has me technically supervising two departments. I'm somewhat in transition until I come back from my maternity leave, at which point I'll complete a move over to the new department. It's their way of lightening my load until after the baby is born- I don't have a whole lot to do with either team right now, as I'm training others to take over my old team, and haven't taken the reigns completely for my new team yet. It's great in theory....)

So the one girl comes to talk to me about taking a few hours off next week, and I completely thought she was someone else, from the other team. *Sigh*.

I figured it out about 3/4 through the conversation, thank goodness I didn't blurt out "OMG I THOUGHT YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE COMPLETELY!" lol. But of course I still looked like an idiot lol.

I guess just laugh and move on. *Sigh*. What else can I do? lol. Anyone have a similar story? I have had some pregnancy brain off and on the whole time but this sure takes the cake!

What can I do next?

when i was pregnant i would forget to take my bra off before showering... happened 5-6x with both pregnacies.

I think "48 brain" is a thing too! I totally wrote down the wrong DOB for my daughter when I was getting her prescription. I wrote she was born on the 29th instead of the 27th. The pharmacist just laughed at me after I told her I had only one cup of coffee and clearly needed more. lol I don't remember any specific pregnancy brain because it was so long ago but I'm sure there was some doozies. =0)

I have done almost this exact same thing. I take student interns from my alma mater every summer. This past year at homecoming, I ran into a previous intern and spent a good 10 minutes taking to her and then, just like you, realized she was a completely different intern than I was thinking. Fortunately, like you, I managed to switch gears quietly, although I'm sure my face had an odd expression, because every thought that goes through my head goes right across my face.

And, I did not have baby brain to blame.

A friend of mine is very pregnant, and she was just out with her husband at a restaurant. Totally freaked out about the feel of her clothes, and was about to rip off her top when her husband reminded her where they were. She almost didn't care.

I remember driving places, and knowing when I left and when I arrived, but having the middle part of the journey completely absent from my brain.

Actually, I think you are doing really well! Hang in there!

(BTW Pregnancy Brain segues smoothly to Sleep-Deprived-Mom-of-Newborn Brain. That's also a thing.) Cheers!

Well, I didn't do THAT when I was pregnant, but when I came back from maternity leave, I had to write lists detailing everything I was doing and telling people, because I just could NOT remember. My hormones were all over the place and I just couldn't keep stuff straight. My boss, who didn't have children, fussed at one point and asked me if I just needed to go home. I looked at him and said point blank "It won't help. Be careful what you say, or I'll go home and I won't come back." He started being patient and nice to me about my darn lists at that point...

(And yes, your hormones act like you're still pregnant for a while, don't ya know? LOL!)

Fast forward many years later, during the peri-menopause to menopause time, I actually wrote a check for the natural gas bill for $700 and something dollars, instead of $70 something dollars. That was a HUGE shocker for me! I mean, I KNEW I was having a hard time, but OMG!!
