Pregnancy and Iud

Good Morning!!!!!!! I am just wondering how many of you out there have iud's, and are comfortable with them? Also I am wondering the percentage of "accidents" that happened? My dr. told me 6 out of 100...so that sort of was not really what I was hoping for!!! It also sort of bothers me that there be something placed "inside" of me and wondering if it could "fall out"? I am not wanting any more children, and my husband didn't either from when I was pregnant with my son until about 6 months ago....I would like to go ahead and do a permanent prevention, but he still wants to think about it!!! Any advice is helpful!!!

What can I do next?

Hi. I have an IUD and for me it has worked great. I have the 5 yr. and the % is 8 in 1000. For my husband and I it has worked great. My doctor is in Mt. Pleasant. If I were you I would get all the information on IUD's and decide what the best one for you is. I had a chose of 3 different ones. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I had an IUD a few years back. I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy!! =) At first I had no problems with it but then after a month or so I developed a pelvic inflammatory infection. This was VERY painful and I immediately had the IUD removed and switched birth control. This was just my experience with it! I wish you luck and hope it works out for you! =)

I have a Mirena and had it put in when my son was about 3 months old (so almost 3 yrs ago). The first month, I had cramping and spotting, but after that - it's been awesome. It's an easy solution that is not permanent - which worked out well for me. Plus, my insurance paid 100% for it. I'll have to have my replaced in a couple of years, but I'm positive I'll do it again.

From everything I have ready, the Mirena IUD is 99% effective, at least. Are you sure your doctor said 6 out of 100? That's 6%, which would mean it is only 94% effective. You can research it on the internet. I had the Mirena IUD and was very pleased with it. I never felt it and was completely happy with being carefree about birth control. The ONLY downside, and it's a minor one, is that it was kind of painful when it was removed. Actually, very painful, but it didn't last long. The positives definitely outweigh that one negative.

Don't do it. I got one 3 years ago and the doctor cut the strings too short. Now, I'm looking at a 20K bill to have it removed through surgery. Also, I've gained weight, had bad acne, feel bloated and have milk leaking from my breast sometimes. I would never recommend it. I still haven't had it removed because I will have to hire a lawyer, etc...

Krissy, thank you for letting her know what happened to me. i saw the advice column for this and jumped on it. i do not recommend this at all especially for women who have had c-sections. if you've had one your risks are greater for mishaps because the surgery changes the shape of you uterous.
i found out i was pregnant two hours before sugery. but that didn't change the fact that it was devastating. they didn't find the embryo during surgery so they had to do more tests to make sure that it didn't attatch itself to any of my other organs. i was torn at this point. i knew that it would be life threatening but the mom in me was hoping anyway. anyone who has lost thier baby would understand. i knew i was pregnant for only two hours, and it still was a terrible feeling.
for about a day i had mild cramping, i went to work and was ok for about half the day. the cramping steadily got worse and with in a few hours i could barely stand. we went to the er that night and i'll never forget the look on my husbands face while i was signing release papers for the surgery. i never want to see that face again. the enormousy of the situation didn't hit me until i was being drugged and falling asleep. i told them i would see my babies agian and then i was out. i had trouble coming out of the anesthesia. i could feel everything but i couldn't open my eyes or talk. there were points where i stopped breathing and was not conscience of it. the nurses somehow knew i was able to hear them and kept telling me that whenever i hear the machines that i need to remind myself to breathe. to breathe! how scary is that. please take this into consideration before you make your decision. to me 6 out of 100 odds aren't very good when it comes to something like this and if you've had a c-section the odds are even worse. I love my son, Gabriel. but some times i wonder what that baby would have looked like, if it were a boy or a girl, what kind of personality the baby would have had. just something to think about.

Hey there! I have a Mirena IUD that I got 2 months after having my son which was in March 2007..I love it! I can't feel the IUD and its good for 5 yrs. My DR will check it at every annual exam I have. Its really been easy. It takes a whole 30 seconds to put in and its done! I highly recommend the Mirena IUD..I know there is another brand but I've heard that one is uncomfortable.
Hope this helps a little!

I can understand your concern about your choices, but I would like to caution you about making a permant choice right away. Where I live you are required to wait thity days after signing the papers before having the surgery, so you can think about it. Think of theese possibilities; what if a child passed away(heaven forbid) or you and your husband split? Also, can you garuntee that you will feel the same in five years? I would reccomend the mirena iud. It has a very low failure rate with typical use, and no it won't fall out. The main issue with the iud is that for the first three months you caould experiance breakthrough bleeding, then it would taper off, until the one year mark, then bleeding preatty muh stops. Talk to your doctor about all your options, and make sure to get the pros and cons of all the different types and disscus with your husband before deciding. Good Luck!
