Pregancy and plus Size
i am in the process of going through fertility drugs after no luck for many years, i am a full figure gal and i know that can cause many more issues. i have been tested for diabetes, which i do not have and everything else came out normal. i do take thyroid everyday for underactive thyroid. i have been eating better and getting more excercise since starting this program, and i am hoping this works. i would really like to hear from other moms that are plus size and hear about what they went through, what to expect, or just anything you would like to tell me.

So What Happened?™
What helpful and insightful responses. Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement and especially the Baby Dust! (too cute) I went in today for the last of my testing and should have all the results by early next week. Then will start taking clomid immediatly after that. Listening to you all did put me more at ease. And I feel I am not going into this as blind as I was before. So, please feel free to keep the messages coming, I'd love to hear anything and everything you have to say! And I will keep you posted as things progress...

Healthy is the key! I worked out everyday, you don't need to be skinny to have a baby, but healthy helps!

Hi, S.--I'm a plus size mom who's never had trouble conceiving, so I can't give you advice with regard to that topic, but I would like to share with you the most helpful web site I found during my last pregnancy: http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/firstindex.html . There you will find information about conceiving, finding the right caregivers, birthing options, postpartum issues...so much you wanted to know and didn't even know you wanted to know!

Hi! I am plus size and have a 5 month old. We tried and tried without success after a miscarriage, but after a year we did it! Weight has a lot to do with it though. You can read lots of articles about health and weigh issues, but in the end, stress plays a big role. Eat healthy, love yourself, don't stress out, and remember you are having fun. When I say love yourself, pamper a little, go get a pedicure, make sure when you look in the mirror, your really happy, not just pretending. I know it is hard when you are trying and not succeeding, but it will happen. I had a rough pregnancy, nothing would stay down, I was in the hospital a lot, nut I still want another child, later though. A lot later. I am planning for another in about 3 years, I want to spend quality time with my gal, make sure I let her enjoy her mommy and me time, and then, when she is a little bit independant, we are hoping to introduce her to a baby sibling. Just enjoy the joy of wanting a baby. Remember that there are women out there that don't want children, you want one!! Pretty soon you'll get there and BOOM! 9 months will fly by! Good Luck and God bless!

I was plus size prior to my pregnancy and during (obviously). I think the only thing I found difficult was ignoring the doctor telling me I was gaining too much weight too fast, and finding maternity clothes that fit. You would think maternity stores carried larger sized clothes....not where I live! Due to my pre-pregnancy weight (170), I was to only gain about 25 pounds. About 45 pounds later (and eating all the food I could reach)...I gave birth to a healthy 8 pound baby boy. But I found that after I had my son, I was able to lose weight easier. After 6 months, I got back to pre-pregnancy weight of 170. After 6 more months (1 year total), I lost another 20 pounds. I'm still trying to lose more weight - but if this is what it takes to lose weight for me - then I need me another pregnancy!
This is just my experience. I'm not sure what you were looking for exactly, but there you go :)

Hi S. --
I also was in this situation. Like another responder, I had/have polycystic ovarian syndrome -- which is really an endocrine problem and is related to insulin resistance.
During the year before I got pregnant (naturally), I changed the way I eat profoundly. I followed the dietary ideas in the book The Schwarzbein Principle, and they helped me a lot. I increased protein quite a bit (lean sources), ate whole grains, and had lots and lots of leafy greens. I tried to stay away from processed foods and chose whole grains (like brown rice or wheat berries) instead of bread when I could.
When I was pregnant, I did develop Gestational Diabetes, and this had to be monitored carefully. However, the way I learned to eat before I got pregnant helped me manage better during the pregnancy. I was able to control my blood sugar through diet only.
Best of luck to you!

S.,
Well I am currently preggo with my second child, and yes I am more than plus size, my first is 6 1/2 years old and I am due in a few weeks with number 2 ( both girls) I have no real medical conditions, aside from my weight, however it did take almost 3 years for us to get preggo again naturally, after I went off the pill, so patients may be a good piece of advice and just keep working with your doctor and I wish you the best of luck!

So I was in the same boat and I now have 3 children. It was a simple matter for me-fertility wise-because I have polycystic ovary syndrome. The doc put be on provera (not a fertility drug) and each time I was pregnant a few months later. As far as losing weight-it's a daily battle for me. I was never overweight until I had my first child and it's been tough ever since. I now at least weigh 40 lbs less than I did when I found out was pregnant with my son (he's 1 year now) and I'm trying not to be so hard on myself and know that little changes will make a difference. Make exercise a daily goal to start. I follow the weight watchers plan. Anyway, good luck.
