Little Muchkin makes great wedges that can be placed under the baby so he can't roll over. It may help with scooting too. You can get them at Target for about $15.

Hi C.. My son was 8 weeks early and still at 17 months moves all over his crib when sleeping. When we first put him in the crib we swaddled him good and snuggle but he would just work his way out of the the blanket. First just his arms and then the blanket is left in the dust. Still does this. I am guessing they can't help it. They are just "movers". Congratulations by the way. Blessings - L.

Let them move a little. Probably there is a reason for it.
I had a preemie. He is 23 now.
So use bumpers, Cuz your baby is getting stronger. :)

C.,
Have you tried the "swaddle me" blankets that strap? You can get them from Babies R Us for about $10.00. We put our little guy in one from the time he was born until he was 4-5 months old. He couldn't get out of it and he stayed put. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Personally, I would get a swaddle me blanket from babies-r-us in the smallest size they have and wrap him in that, and not get a positional thing. Everything that I have read says not to use them, put nothing in their crib with them.

Talk to your pediatrician though and see what he/she recommends.

Like the previous poster said, placing him next to the side may help him if he is seeking out being next to something.

And remember, some kids are just active sleepers and the only thing you can do is keep an eye on him.

Congratulations on your little on being home!

We used the wedges for our second and swaddled him really tightly like on the video "The Happiest Baby on the Block". He loved being at the edge and still sleeps on the edge in his toddler bed. As a baby we put the top of his head slightly brushing the top and his face very close to the side so it was all he could see. That seemed to help with the scooting and he seemed to sleep much more soundly.

I have found out from my son that rapping him up realy tight in his blanket before bedtime that keep him from moving around as much. They do that to find some warmness when they are in there crib, and just in case that dosen't work go and buy some bumpers for the crib. Hope this works for you

I used to fold up bathtowels, those big and fluffy towels, and put them around th crib, and at least my babies (i had 3; they're now 18, 15, and 8.... time flies) didn't bump their heads against crib, but still had freedom to move around. I didn't want to stop them from moving around as it seemed to me they needed it.

Try a back positioner...that helped my daughter a lot. However at 4 1/2 mos my son flipped himself over it and slept on his stomach. He was a big baby though. I was in a panic and the Pediatrician said there is not much I could do if he could flip himself and he would be strong enough and was fine.
With my daughter who was a lot smaller I was worried and make sure there are no bumpers, maybe try a back positioner though, that takes a lot of strength to get over.

There are great little swaddlers by Kiddopotamus (you can find them at Babies R Us). They velcro closed so that your little guy can't scurry out of them. Our baby loves them so much that we've bumped him up to the next size!

I had the same problem, and I bought a sleep positioner. It has foam sides that keep the baby in the same place, especially when there are that young.

Sometimes newborns scoot to the edge or the corner of their cribs to feel a little more 'closed in' (more like the womb environment). It makes sense when you think about how little they are in relation to their crib in the first couple of months, especially preemies. Like some of the others have said, I would get a couple of Swaddle Me blankets (they make a preemie size) and potentially think about getting an inexpensive bassinet to use for the first couple of months so that he feels a little more surrounded. Hope that helps!

Hi C.,

You can buy these sleeping wedges, not exactly sure what they are called. They have them at Babies-R-Us and there is a foam triangle wedged on both sides and you lay the baby between them. They are also used to help prevent SIDs. I use it with my little girl who was also a preemie. She is now 3 months and 3 weeks. They work really nice.

I know that First Years makes it. And it is pretty reasonable, like 12 dollars I think.

Congratulations on your little boy! I used the baby wedges when my girls were newborns to keep them in one place and propped a little to their side. They may have them at Babies'R'Us.

I had twin boys at 26.5 weeks who were very active despite their small size. I tried the positioners and they just scooted down and out of them so don't waste your money. We were in the NICU for quite a while so I got to be a pro at swaddling and just went with that most of the time.
We also had issues with stooling and used glycerine suppositories.

I read that someone else suggested a swadle me blanket by kiddopolous at Babies r us and I second that suggestion!! They stay in their little blanket and I would also look at the foam positioners. I only had the swadle me blanket for my third and final child and really really wished I had them for the previous two. A year ago they were only $10, well worth the bucks! Gook Luck!

I had triplets at 32 weeks, so I understand your concern. Mine from the minute they were home moved to the edge of the cribs. First of all, I do have bumpers, but they are mesh. I have come in to check on them and they have been face first in the bumpers and sleeping quite soundly. Also, I read online that some babies move around because they feel more comfortable against a barrior... like they were in mom. I put them into sleep sacks so that they would stay warm, and to this day they still end up in the corners. Sleep sacks are really comfortable for them, and not that expensive at babies r us. I also got my bumpers there. I think they are at Walmart too, but I got mine from babies r us. I hope this helps.

Hi C., Congrats on your new arrival.
I'm a blessed Mom of three awesome boys and I have daycare for 10 years. The best thing I can tell you is to get a sleep sack. It's like a cozy little sleeping bag that you zip them up in. I have seen kids use them until they outgrow them(about three). They are wonderful for helping with restless sleep. They seem to really enjoy them and it makes them feel safe. Good Luck
