Pre-schools in Denton.

My daughter is 3 years old, and I was thinking of trying to place her in a pre-school, or something of that nature when she turns 4. Only problem is is that she is VERY VERY shy when it comes to strangers. Now kids are ok with her, it's just the adults she doesn't like. Like she HAS to tell and adult when she needs to go potty otherwise she wont go. Either that, or if you notice that she hasn't gone in a while, (she gets too involved in playing)that sometimes you have to ask her if she needs to go. I'm almost possitive that she will not ask to go OR answer, if asked, if its a stranger doing the asking. So, I need a place that is willing to work with that. I'm sure that once she gets used to the adult all that will be ok. It's almost like she will shut herself down to the adult only and hide from that person, and not talk to them or anyhting. Does anyone know of a pre-school (or a place like that) that's pretty cheap, and acually in Denton that is willing to work with this little problem of mine? I dont want to keep her in a house all day while I'm at work with her very destructive 2 year old cousin, and aging aunt. Any advice on what to do and where to go would be SO SO appreciated.

What can I do next?

I run a small in home day care, and on M,W &F, I offer a great preschool program and have another 3 year old girl that comes just for that. I have a 4 yr old girl, and my daugher is 3.5, and then I care for the younger brother of the 4 yr old, and he is 2.5. Although I have an appreciation for the larger preschools, given your concerns, I could see how something smaller scale might help. I have done childcare for over 10 years, and use a superb curriculum. I recently dealt with this very situation with the 3 year old girl that comes, she just needed a little reassuring, and she has done well. Her mom thought that it was the comfort of a home environment that really made the transition easier. If you would like to try to have you little one come here, she would be more than welcome. If you then feel like she needs to transition to a larger preschool, at least you would know that she can handle being with someone else. And with a baby brother coming it might be just the big girl thing she needs to help entertain her. I charge $150 per month for 8:30-12:30, but if you wanted to start with something less, I have the flexibility to help out. Please send me a PM and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Good luck with the newst baby...we just had a boy seven months ago and they are great! ~A.~

My daughter went to Countryside Montessori. Montessori school is the best thing I ever did for her. The school is wonderful. The teachers are wonderful. When my daughter went to Kindergarten this year, she was way ahead of all the other kids. She could already read and write when she started kindergarten. Most of the other kids could not even write their names. They will definitely work with her on the potty training business as well. They have different prices depending on the hours you want her there. It is a little more expensive then regular preschools, but not much and it is so worth every penny. Their number is ###-###-####. Trust me-the kids at this school are the sweetest, most well behaved kids and I don't think it is a coincidence. Plus, they offer dance lessons at the school (at least they did last year and they probably still do).

Kids in preschool will quickly adapt to the rules and routines, so you probably don't need to worry about the potty issue. It takes kids about 6 weeks to completely assimilate into preschool "culture." After that, things should be smooth!
Check into the Mother's Day Out programs in Denton. There are programs at many of the local churches and there is one through the City of Denton parks and recreation department. I believe it meets at either Denia Park recreation center or North Lakes park rec center (or maybe there's one at both). The church-based programs run $135 to about $170 per month for 2 or 3 days a week 9am to 2pm. I don't know the hours of the city program, but it's $90/month.

I recommend finding a licensed home preschool. Try www.dahcca.org (Denton Area Home Child Care Association) for some very experienced providers and teachers.
