Pre-memopause?

Hi Moms!
I hope any of you could help me. A couple of months ago I started to wake up in the middle of the night feeling very hot. At the beginning I would just uncover myself and then I would go back to sleep, but recently I realized that it's not my whole body that feels hot it's only my head. And not only I feel my head hot but it also sweats. I'm starting to think that this could be pre-menopause, but I haven't heard hot flashes on the head only. I'm 39 and although I don't find it impossible, I find it a little strange.
Have any of you experienced something like this?

What can I do next?

Thank you all for your advises and comments. I made an appointment after reading your response. I have it for next week, so thank you all again.

Are you on any medications? This has happened to me before. I sometimes need to go on Prednisone, a steroid, for asthma. It causes night sweats.

I'm not sure. I am 40 and recently had my yearly check up. I was told that pre-menopause could actually last several years. I good indicator is what age your mother was when she went through it. Also, the very first sign of menopause is vaginal dryness so if you are not experiencing any of that, I would not think this is related. I think you should be able to call into your ob/gyn's nurse and she could answer without actually having to make an appointment. Would be interesting what they say....

Oh definitely I have. This is how it started for me at 35ish or so and I still get it off and on now that I'm 47. I was shocked when my Gyn said I was already pre-menopause at 35 but I definitely was.

The next weird thing was the confusion of having the full hot flashes AND multiple periods a month as well as zits AND a whisker under my chin. I mean c'mon --- lol --- but you gotta roll with it.

Hang in there. Some find that progesterone cream helps a ton. I'm on a yahoo group with some ladies in the same boat. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/hormoneHealthNW/ might be worth checking out.

Hang in there!

Get tested for hipothyroidism. Just a big name, don't be scared. And your blood pressure. Good luck.

Hi J. - There is this evil condition called perio-menopause, we don't hear as much about it as I think we should. I have had it for over 9 years. It makes my life h-ll. I am 47 and I still have it. It has all the same symptoms of menopause without actually being "in menopause".
My sweats are not only just at night but any time of the day and especially when it rains - I know that sounds crazy - but it is true. Of course living in the south does not help either with the humidity. I have cut my hair really short because I could not stand the sweaty hair touching me. I have even used clinical strength anti persparent on my most sweaty areas - that works some.
My periods have been irregular for a very long time so that was no indicator. I have recently had my DR changed (by them) not by me and I did mention it to him and he said that there are meds that may help, not HRT either.

I sleep in tank tops, can't stand anything near my neck, I have 2 fans blowing on me at all times, oh and by the way did I mention I am single - LOL!!!!

Check with your DR, they can do blood work and tell you if you are in perio-menopause or starting the actual menopause.
I feel your pain sister.

For starters, I would say to contact your doctor to determine what it could be. I'm 38 and have had hot flashes for the past year - initially from chemo (for breast cancer), which sends many women, temporarily or sometimes permanently, into menopause (they call it "chemopause") but now from real monopause. I had my ovaries and tubes removed three weeks ago because I have the BRCA2 gene mutation which puts me at high risk for developing ovarian cancer, which is a "silent killer."

Okay, that said, when I get a hot flash, I absolutely feel it in my head - I get almost a tingling sensation right before the sweating starts, then I feel hot all over, but it is mostly my head - wierd. I know this probably doesn't help you much, but thought I'd put my two cents in! Good luck; I hope you figure out what is causing your night sweats.

i had some similar problems when i was younger and the obgyn said it was an early change of life and put me on harmones at the age of 35. well i want back to my primary dr and he had a fit as i had had a hystermectomy at 24 due to cancer, which meant no regular change of life. any way after lots of viles for a blood test he found i had fibromiligia and it has the same symptons as the change of life. ask your dr to check you. good luck and GOD BLESS J.

Go to Doctor and dicuss about that. it might seem be diabetic or thyroid, other health issues. Dr possible send you for blood and gloucose tests. Dr. can answer and tell you after blood results. 39 may too young for pre-menopause. I woke up during night same thing but not sweating just feel hot and so thirty, I drink during middle of nights then I discussed with my dr about it. he sent me to blood and gloucose test. result went out that I have type 2 diabetic. I am 41. there are many various in each different indivdiual. I was told that 40's have many health issues very common like diabetic, thyriods, and hormones changes. pre-menopause (usually around 50's unless it happen eariler)

good luck
